Posted: 12/16/03 at 9:41pmI thought this might be a fun thread to do. Are there any Broadway lyrics you've misheard that aren't too embarrassing to be typed?

I could never understand most of what Jennifer Holliday sings in Move Right Out of My Life from Dreamgirls.
"Uh Pakca-wacka mackik! Just like the Titanic! And gunnuh whont ow! Just move right outa my, move right outa my liiiiiiiiiiife! Oh, whoah!"

For the longest time I couldn't undertsand the line in Money from Cabaret that correctly is "when you go to get a word of advice from the fat little pator"
I always thought it was "when you go to get a word of advic from a fat little bastard"

Personally, I can never understand the words to "At the End of the Day" from "Les Miserables."
It sounds like a bunch of terriers yaking at the postman.

Posted: 12/17/03 at 1:03pmI always thought that in "Brand New Day" in "The Wiz" they were singing "Free Magazine." I think the actual lyrics are "Bring up the scene."

Posted: 12/17/03 at 2:14pmI thought that the line in "America" from West Side Story was "Everything free in America / Pour us coffee in America" when it's actually "For a small fee in America."

QueenC the lyrics are "Freedom you see, has got our hearts singing so joyfully..."
I know the same thing with the WIZ "Don't you carry nothing that my be alone"
but it is "don't you carry nothing that might be a load"

Definitely in "You Can't Stop The Beat" from Hairspray.
I couldn't, for the longest time, understand the lyrics:
"Come on you Von Tussles, Go and Shake Your Fanny Muscles!"

I'm afraid by posting here I'm going to sound deaf.
I agree I can't understand some of You Can't Stop the Beat although the song is one of my favorite songs.
Also on the ttB CD although Raul is amazing I can't understand half the words to 30/90

When I saw some online videos of "Wicked", I could not decipher A LOT of what they were saying.
"Cuz it feels wonderful, they think I'm wonderful, and look who's wonderful- this pointed hick.
Hahaha!!!
"Don't be offended by my frank analysis, think of it as personality dialysis, now that I've chosen to become a palaysis, you're red advisor, there's nobody wiser. Not when it comes to popular".
Well, that's what it sounds like!

Posted: 12/17/03 at 8:31pmThe first time I saw Dance of the Vampires, I got slightly befuddled during the song "Logic". It was difficult to understand what exactly the professor was saying, though it became much clearer the second time I saw the show.

The first time I heard "You Can't Stop The Beat" it wasn't that line that got me it was there reply. "Ever since we first saw the sun, it seems Von Tussle girls are always tryin' to pleas someone but now we're gonna shake and shimmy I and have some fun today!"
Also during "The Nicest Kids in Town" The chorus at one point goes "Money.money..oh money money".. Yea def. not what I thought they where saying

I am incredibly embarassed to admit these lyrics I have misheard..
In "Let Yourself Go" I thought Kristin Chenoweth was singing "Let the dashboard fill you leather." which makes ABSOLUTELY no sense. The actual lyrics are "let the dancefloor fill you leather."
Another one, which I think my lyrics are better (no offense Jonathan Larson) in ttB "We leave the dust of the world, wondering why," as opposed to "We eat the dust of the world, wondering why".
Also, Amy Spanger's voice in "Come to Your Senses" prevents me from hearing what she is really singing.
In addition, Heather Headley's voice in Aida confuses me sometimes about what she is singing, like in "The Past Is Another Land" there were a lot of misheard lyrics.
Also in "Another Pyramid" Zoser sings "At times real plain, at times real wild..." but the actual lyrics are "At times acclaimed, at times reviled..."
These are just the ones I can think of right now. I'm sure I will recall other embarassments, and I'll share them all with you.

Mine as a child were "How do you hold a mooney in your hand?"
and "Why geese that fly with the moon on their wings?"
I dunno, Oscar, why geese?
Last but not least, "Just a little torture, that's what I need." Thank you, Patti Lupone.
