Wow... I think this is the FASTEST "make it into a musical" thread: the movie had only been out for 4 days when this was started (and in limited release too).

(Can't wait to see the movie, BTW)

There's absolutely no reason why the 3 of us can't team-up to pen this one. Matter o' fact, that would be pretty cool. :)

It was #3 last week based on per screen average, 75% Fresh at RT and a 63 on Metacritic. Not bad at all.

PEACE.

Okay some of you may not know that it was originally a book.
I am reading the book and it is so incredibly adorable.
The movie.. which I saw a preview of has been one of the highlights of my movie viewing of the year. It really is a fun and great movie.
I do believe that someone could make it into a great musical. It could do well regionally I bet.
There are three really good female parts and of course, four male parts.... you could do some really great casting.
I actually think if someone like Jerry Herman took it.. he could do wonders with it.

"Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion's starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don't see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge - they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I've got a sneaky feeling you'll find that love actually is all around."

Just had to ressurect this thread. I found the movie to be charming and am now reading the book. I too walked out of the film thinking it would make a wonderful "little" musical. Flaherty and Ahrens seem to have luck with musicalizing obscure material ("Dessa Rose," "My Favorite Year," "A Man of No Importance"). Maybe they'll take a crack at it.
