Its showing already. And I want to see it so bad.

I know most of the actors, and I consider RJ Rosalesa as weird choice for Thuy.

Check the site out, www.miss-saigonaustralia.com.au

One big problem, the site does not contain videos of the new production. I think they are using the old touring one.

Here's wishing that they'll bring it back to Broadway.

GOD BLESS.

"This thread reads like a series of White House memos." — Mister Matt

Saw this on Sunday past. I'm still in Melbourne, and return home tomorrow. I literally walked off the plane, arrived at my hotel a couple of doors down from the theatre, walked in and bought a ticket and sat down and watched the show. The death stares I got off people for wearing a tshirt and shorts...

First off, it's a brilliant production imo. However, it suffers a lot being in the Her Majesty's Theatre. Seriously, this theatre is waaay too small for such a big show (even though it's already scaled down). I felt like they were just holding back because it would've been absolutely rediculous to belt it out as in a bigger theatre. With this came some loss in diction which can easily be improved upon. The thing with the Her Majesty's is that almost half the seats in the stalls are also restricted viewing, which dampened the show a bit too. You just couldn't really take it all in as you should be able to with the balcony hanging down so low.

Props to Juan and Laurie, who I felt were the best performers in the whole show. Juan's John is very different because he has a very operatic voice. But his Bui Doi is to kill for. It had the loudest applase of all the numbers.

After the opening, the show just seemed a bit slow and repetitive, but it really picked up at Thuy's death scene. The show just exploded on stage at the moment when Kim is confronting him about her child, and then screams after she shoots Thuy. POWERFUL. This did it for me. Laurie had me in the bag. She really meant it when she said that he wasn't going near her child.

Honourable mention to Leo who really got his chance to shine in Act 2. Really played up to the audience.

David and Sophie do the job as Chris and Ellen, however I felt that Sophie really let her chance go during 'If Not For Me, For Her' - it could have been sooo much more powerful, but she didn't really do much with it. Never the less, I was still very satisfied.

While the show did feel very repetitive at times, there were some absolutely brilliant and chilling moments that more than made up for it. I fell in love with the show all over again. I even got photos with Juan and Laurie afterwards.

I can't wait to see it in Brisbane at the Lyric, where it'll have a bit more room to breathe (not just figuratively, but literally, as the wing space at HM didn't really allow the set to retract far enough into the sides).

Her Majesty's Theatre in Melbourne isn't that small at 1,670 seats. It is still the best theatre in Australia for musicals, no other theatre in the country comes close.

Who are these people - Laurie, Matt and so forth? These first names mean nothing to people reading this. Please provide full names. Updated On: 4/24/07 at 02:57 AM

rabymon10, I was there this previous Sunday as well! Normally, you would have LOVED Sophie, but on Sunday she was definitely holding back. She's missed quite a few shows lately, and my guess is she's still not feeling up to par.

I was fortunate enough to see Christina Tan as Ellen last week, and she knocked me for six. I've also seen Jennifer Trijo as Kim and I almost hate to admit it, but I loved her so much more than I did Laurie. And Laurie already blows me away! :)

Is this an actual new production or a remounting of the eHytner/Napier/Avian production?

"If Not For Me, For Her"

Isnt that from Woman In White, or do you mean "Now That I've Seen Her" (It's Her Or Me Now)

It is the same physical production that toured the UK and the U.S. a year or so ago.
