Well I suppose that if they can have a school edition of Les Miserables, they can have a school edition of Miss Saigon. Neither of these classic shows seem like a good idea for high school students as they have very difficult singing demands and deal with really adult themes. I get a feeling schools would only do them because they're popular.
If schools want to do a show that everyone's heard of but that's also great for kids, MTI just announced they've got the rights to Hairspray. No word on when schools will actually be able to do it, but I'm sure it'll become a staple when it's available akin to the Beauty and the Beast regional explosion of the past year or two.

Posted: 1/29/06 at 12:42pmI have to say, as scary as it sounds, it could end up being okay. A couple of years ago a high school near me did Les Miz and it was actually GOOD. I think they were the first high school in our state to do it or something, so there was all kinds of press for it. Most of the singers were amazing, and the sets were awesome. I was so impressed!

Even if it's not the same as the original, it will still give them a chance to experience part of what they would have missed otherwise.
I remember days
Or at least I try
But as years go by
They're sort of haze
And the bluest ink
Isn't really sky
And at times I think
I would gladly die
For a day of sky

Posted: 1/29/06 at 1:15pmI don't think this is such a huge deal. It's no different than the School Edition of Les Miserables.

Posted: 1/29/06 at 1:57pmMaybe I just come from a pathetic high school with no auditorium. (All productions were performed in our tiny cafeteria.) They couldn't have put on such elaborate shows. They found that "The Miracle Worker" was too difficult.
