There isn't really a "best" per se, it depends what kind of stuff you already like.

By "modern" do you mean new this season? A musical that's not a revival?

If you mean new this season, both Kinky Boots and Matilda have their admirers --- and detractors.

Pippin is a revival, but it too has met with a lot of enthusiasm here.

If you're including long-run musicals as modern, then I would say Mamma Mia and Jersey Boys provide the most entertainment for your 100+ dollars.
