first preview was tonight, did anyone go? Sounds promising

"MacArthur Genius Award-winning playwright Luis Alfaro returns to The Public with the New York premiere of his stirring drama about love, immigration, and sacrifice, inspired by the Ancient Greek story of Medea.

Helmed by Chay Yew ("Oedipus El Rey", this play combines ancient storytelling with the most pressing issues facing our country today, following a young Mexican mother who gives up everything to bring her son to America, only to find America demands even more. With poetry, humor, and heart, "Mojada" is a bold new telling of a story as old as tragedy itself."

I saw a production at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. It was strong and powerful. The actor who played Medea was very good and she is repeating the role at The Public. Don't miss it!

I saw the Chicago production years ago. It was okay. I’m assuming this play is belatedly getting an NYC production due to the timeliness of the crossing the border/immigration themes. I enjoyed it, but to give it its New York production seven years after it premiered seems kinda like a cash grab on a hot button issue.

The Chicago production ran 135 minutes. For a production In LA, Mr. Alfaro trimmed the play to 90 minutes. That script was used at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in 2017. Months later, the production moved to Portland Center Stage in Oregon. Also, I seem to recall there was a production at a theatre in Seattle.

Over the years, the play has changed. Who cares if the play is now being done in New York?! Who cares if a play is about a hot button issue?!

Very much looking forward to seeing this, having read reviews from previous productions that I couldn't attend. Spending a weekend seeing other previously produced works (Little Gem, Broadway Bounty Hunter) as well. Happy to let them grab my cash for all of it!
