Monologue I Want to Use

[My Fair Lady]

It's from The Children's Hour, one of my favorite plays ever. Is it completely not age-appropriate? (I'm 14) The song I'm using for the audition I want to use this for is "Much More" from The Fantasticks.

Karen: Martha is dead. So last night, you found out you had doen wrong to us. And now, you have to right that wrong or you can't rest your head again. Well, don't rest it. I won't be your confessor. Take your conscience someplace else, get somebody else to help you be a "good" woman again. You told us that night you had to do what you did. Now you have to do this. A public apology and money paid and you can sleep and eat again. You and all those who always know how right you are. What's somebody else's life to you? A way to show your own righteousness. And if you happen to be wrong, you can always put it right some other day. I have a dead friend. Get out of here and be noble on the street.

what's the audition for and how old is the character in the monologue?

It's for this thing at my camp called Musical Repertory Theater....4 hours a day of theater, 5 days a week over the summerfor 7 weeks. It's really, really uber-competitive (10% acceptance rate).

I wish I could be auditioning places with 10% acceptance...

Not knowing you it would be hard to say if these are good choices. Do you have a drama teacher? What do your friends think? It's probably not a good idea to go by people on the net who have never seen you perform.

I have a voice teacher whose my sister's acting teacher, so I can ask her.
And brdway...besides Broadway shows or other shows, what places are those? The most competitive university I've seen is Yale, and that's 10%.

CMU takes about 1% of the people who audition...
U of M takes 20 out of about 600...
and we all know about CCM

My opinion: It's not age-appropriate, and you can't really pretend that it is by taking it out of context (as you could with a lot of other monologues) because everyone knows Children's Hour. I think Mary (and maybe Peggy) has a monologue or two, though, so you can still use the play.
