Posted: 7/9/12 at 12:23pmA couple of years ago I saw a musical about Imelda, off off Broadway. Is this the same one?

Evita was unofficially banned in the Philippines when Marcos was in power for obvious similarities
Evita plays Manila in 1986

Posted: 7/9/12 at 1:27pmI have the concept album for this. I should probably listen to it sometime.

Posted: 7/9/12 at 1:30pmIs George Hamilton a character? He would obviously be able to play himself, and he had such a crucial role in the story. Lovable hyper-tanned rogue helps corrupt leader smuggle their wealth to the good old USA, where everybody rich gets a second chance.

Not on the concept album, FindingNamo, if I remember right.
I still think Nicole Scherzinger would be the perfect name (if they were after a name) for the Imelda part. But I'm not her manager.

I thought you meant Imelda Staunton!
...Who would have been a cracking EVITA in her youth, by the way.

Posted: 7/9/12 at 6:04pmYes, I imagine Imelda's voice would be cracking all over the place trying to sing that score...

Posted: 7/9/12 at 6:21pmImelda Staunton actually had a pretty great singing voice back in her youth.

Posted: 7/9/12 at 6:41pmThe 1981 TV movie with Faye Dunaway as Eva was released theatrically in some international markets. I believe Bette Midler's Gypsy was released this way too.

Posted: 7/17/12 at 7:24amOh, that's nothing new. In Europe, "Evita" inspired a slew of sung-through pop musicals about glamourous and bitchy female political leaders that met a tragic end, narrated by a sarcastic male character. This will be one of many to add to the roster.
