It depends on how you define "coming soon". We are talking Hollywood, which seems to work on it's own unique time table.
Look how long it took to get the remake of "ASIB" made - I remember in the late 90s when it was first mentioned the movie would be remade with Whitney Houston and Will Smith - set in the world of R&B. Then Houston was fighting her demons, and Smith had said he would be starring opposite Janet Jackson...but that never happened. Even Beyonce was mentioned for a while. Here it is, 20 years later, and it's finally made with GaGa and Cooper.
ALW has been talking about "SB" since 2002, at least - just waiting for Paramount to give the OK., as everything else is "in place" as he has said.
Streisand has been talking about GYPSY since 2011, and everything was in place except the financing - which keeps getting pulled. If some studio was to pony up for the project tomorrow, I'm sure she would have the cameras rolling shortly after (as she knows how quickly the studio will pull out).
Sondheim has always said he wanted a new movie of ALNM, as the 1977 film was totally miscast (though I enjoyed it). I believe back in 2000-2003 he mentioned Glenn Close for Desiree - but nothing has been heard of since.
