I love Billy Joel music and might go get tickets to this for later this year. (before Holiday season.)
Some people absolutely love it while others, hate it with a passion.
Whats your take on this musical? Be sure to back up your opinion. :)
Oh,.. keep in mind, i would be going with friends who have only seen Lion King (which was for a fifth grade trip) They think every show has a lot of glitz and glamor(i.e. 42nd street)
Thanks in advance!

WONDERFUL!!! But do be sure you go on an evening performance. Michael Cavanaugh is what makes this show truly delightful. He is BRILLIANT and crazy talented. Do try and talk to him after the show too. He is an absolute doll!
By the way, the dancing is beautiful too.

I had an absolutely marvelous time at Movin Out. Soooo much fun.
I saw an understudy for the piano man, but he was incredible.
The dancing is a true spectacle. You'll love it.

Do you like movies without a plot?
"Movin Out" does not have to have a plot.
If you like Billy Joel music and Twyla Tharp choreography you'll love the show.

Posted: 9/27/04 at 5:36pmSaw it three times and absoulutely LOVED it!!! As far as I'm concerned it's the best thing on Broadway right now. I agree with Chrysanthemum... go to an evening performance to see Michael Cavanuagh who performs all of the Billy Joel songs. I saw it with the original cast, and I thought the dancing was electrifying! The best on Broadway! I saw the show with someone different each time, and they were all blown away by it. But I do think it's geared toward a more mature audience. I'm not sure how many young people (under 25) would enjoy it. Also keep in mind... this is NOT The Lion King! If The Lion King, or more traditional Broadway shows, is your cup of tea, then proceed with caution. But if you love dance and Billy Joel music, I really don't see how you could go wrong.

I went into the show not too much of a Billy Joel fan. I came out of the show a HUGE fan of his work. The show is very different from the more "conventional" musicals out there, but I think if you're open to new things, it's definitely a good time.
Edit: I also agree with the ones who said you should make sure you see Michael. I didn't, and I'm still really upset about that. He's very, very talented.

It's a terrible musical.
It's a terrific ballet.

Posted: 9/27/04 at 7:24pmI loved Movin' Out! I just saw it about a month ago, and though I went in with a lot of reservations (the fact that there was no dialouge really perplexed me at first) but I ended up having such an amazing time. I was lucky enough to have 2nd row center tickets, it really is intense watching them dance. I did see the understudy, Wade something (sorry! can't remember) and he was absolutely amazing. You won't go wrong seeing this show IMO!

I'm not sure how many young people (under 25) would enjoy it.
I'm 19 and I loved it. I also took three friends all under 20 (two of whom arent' really theater-savy) and they all loved it too. I'd say it might not be appreciated by a lot of people under 16 or 17, but I think it has a lot of relevance to youth today with the current situation in Iraq and I got a lot out of the show. Plus the dancing is just amazing! Also, just a note, I'd never really heard Billy Joel music before I saw the show (the first time) and now I'm a huge fan.
I saw Wade too, had a wonderful time. Also saw it on tour.

Posted: 9/27/04 at 7:33pmI saw the afternoon show and loved it. The afternoon performers were wonderful. I am seeing it again in November.

I must say I was completely turned off by Tharp's choreography. Too much repition. Nothing was really stand out memorable. Also, I saw the understudy back in Febuary (sorry, I haven't followed the show close enough to know if he's still in and everything, or even his name) and I thought he was amazing. I prefered him to all that I'd heard on the CD. I believe I have since warmed up to the CD, but I'm still not into the dancing.
Edit: Loved the lights and set though.

Posted: 9/27/04 at 7:37pmI saw the national tour in San Fran a couple months ago. For some reason, I didn't think I would like it so much. But, I really had a great time. The dancing is incredible, and it's just a fun show to watch.

MOVIN' OUT IS THE BEST SHOW ON BROADWAY!!!! I saw it a month ago and absolutely LOVED IT! I had second row seats, and seeing the dancers that close was just amazing. The choreography is amazing....Twyla Tharp is a genius! The dancers are so incredibly talented, and they're so nice, especially Desmond Richardson (Tony) and Nancy Lemenager (Brenda)-I met them after the show!!! I was dissapointed that I didn't see Michael Cavanaugh (I have the soundtrack and he is amazing!) but Wade Preston was great, and he was so nice!!! I loved every minitue of it and I can't wait to go back again!

I'm 15 and I love it!!
That's why I said "a lot." I figure there are some (more than likely, people who are on these boards) who will appreciate the subject matter. I was just saying that, in general, a younger audience than that might not fully appreciate it. But I stand corrected.
Edit: And this was my first post as a featured actor. Yay!!

Posted: 9/27/04 at 8:20pmThe music is definitely the best thing about this show. It's Billy Joel so that's just a given. The dancing is really phenomenal as well. It really depends on what you like though. I really enjoyed it though!

Anyone who says it doesn't have a plot has either:
1. never seen a ballet
2. never opened their eyes during the show
There is a story that is told through dance. It's not too difficult to follow if you have the capacity to pay attention for about an hour (more or less) at a time. The Billy Joel tunes are good, but I'm not a big Billy Joel fan. The dancing and choreography are breathtaking. I saw the world premiere and didn't think I would like it, but I found it quitedurprisingly good. I'd go see it again. I only wish I could see Mark Arvin in it again. Does anyone know how he is doing?

Posted: 9/27/04 at 10:51pmBored out of my mind. My friend and I grew up on Billy Joel and adore him...and looked at each other by the third song and wondered why we paid full price. The dancing was great but so.repetitive. I guess I know never to go to the ballet.

Please don't base all ballet on what you saw of Twyla's work.
