Posted: 7/30/05 at 3:37pmGood. I am starting off in a completely neutral place with his songs. Looking at the track list of the CD (I own it but haven't listened to it yet, I bought it with a tonne of other CD's so haven't got around to it.), I do realise I know some of them already. I think I'm going to have a similar "Oh! He sang that?!" experience. I'm row J, so quite excited.

It definitely does not hurt your enjoyment to have no or little familiarity with Billy Joel's music. The dance makes you love the music, if that makes sense.
If you don't like either dance or Billy Joel, I would question why you would see this show. It's amazing, but it is more amazing if you are familiar with dance or are a fan of Billy Joel's.

I'm from the UK and I saw Movin' Out in New York. It is a fantastic show, so full of energy it leaves you breathless just watching!
Recently James Fox, a singer/songwriter/musician from Wales (more info at www.jamesfox.biz) has joined the show as a 'Pianoman'. His debut on Broadway was astonishingly good and his awesome voice and piano playing skills went down a storm. James is now on tour with the show and is alternating the pianoman role with Irishman Darren Holden. See it if you can - I think you'll love it!
Incidentally, we're hearing rumours that the show is coming to The Palladium in London in February 06 but we haven't yet found any official confirmation - any of you guys heard anything about this?

I've wondered about Movin Out on this board also.
I think it's amazing. I've seen the tour twice and will see it when it comes back to Boston next year. Holly Cruikshank is tremendous.
I wonder how non-Billy Joel fans feel about it since that's what got me interested to begin with.
I would try to sit as close to the stage as possible. The band is loud but not intrusive and you can really appreciate how taleted the dancers are. The last four songs are the best.
