Posted: 2/22/07 at 11:19amDidn't they announce this after the tour was over? It is over right? I thought this was odd but then someone told me maybe they are going to get a 'Movin out All-Star' cast together for the airing. Where would they perform it I wonder?

The announcement actually said it would be taped in early 2007 for a release in the second half of the year.
There hasn't been any official updates, though somebody on the ATC board a few weeks back said that the show was going to be given a special performance in San Franisco at the end of February specifically for the taping. The talk of them bringing back the original cast has just been talk. If the taping happens, it will probably include a lot of ensemble members, at least, from the tour. The tour, apparently had to officially be closed for a certain amount of time before the taping took place to avoid having to pay AFTRA and Equity union costs.
So, we'll see. But yes, lots of announced tapings of Broadway shows for TV have never actually happened.

Being in the audience for those tapings is horrible. I attended one of the 3 performances of FOSSE which were taped for the DVD/PBS and those camera cranes limited alot of the sightlines, especially when they would pan the stage -- which blocked the entire theatre's view.
Lots of "we apologize" and "thank you for putting up with" and "we appreciate your cooperation" was said endlessly.
Looks great on the DVD, but what a pain of a night for the audience in attendance.

Posted: 2/22/07 at 5:09pmTo echo what Brody says, usually these type of taped performances are for papered or invited only audiences - because as he says, the cameras block site lines and sometimes certain numbers are repeated at the end of the evening etc. You have to be a very patient audience member...

Posted: 2/22/07 at 5:20pmI've attended at least 2 Bway perfs that were taped that night for PBS: Fosse, and The Women (Roundabout). (In both cases, if I'd known they were being taped for tv, I would have happily not paid to attend and watched at home months later for free- and I actually bought my tix at the thtr both times shortly before showtime, so it was kind of dumb of me not to notice and ask about the trucks outside!) I do believe they were both regular ticketed performances. But I didn't even notice the cameras or anything different during the shows (in Fosse I sat in the orch. around P10, and at The Women, I sat in one of the Boxes From Hell at the Amer. Airlines nee Selwyn Thtr and in the front row center of the mezzanine for Act 2.

In Orange County (CA), it's scheduled to air next Wednesday according to my KCET magazine.
EDIT: It's not on the website... It must have been rescheduled/cancelled.
