Mr.Brolin on Mr. Brantley

According my boy Perez:

On Monday, Josh Brolin attended the New York Film Critics Circle awards ceremony and picked up the Best Supporting Actor honor for his performance in Milk.

According to a number of reports, Mr. Brolin was on fire that night!

During his acceptance speech, Brolin had some choice words for the New York Times' Ben Brantley, who slammed his performance in the 2000 Broadway revival of True West. Brantley apparently called Brolin's performance "flattening".

Said Joshy to the audience, "Ben Brantley - honestly I hate that mother******! And I don't think he's a good writer."

He also went on to talk smack about tubster Russell Crowe, who he worked with in American Gangster, while praising his Milk co-star Sean Penn, "Quite an actor Sean Penn . . . Amazing. Not an asshole like Russell Crowe."

We loves a man who speaks his mind!

gotta love it.

I like Brolin well enough and I think he's a decent actor, but to use his time to speech for winning award to bitch about a review he got almost a decade ago? That's .... odd, to say the least.

Mr. Brantley's response:

"Oh well, too bad. That's what critics are supposed to do. And your mother sucks eggs."
"Y'know, I think Bertolt Brecht was rolling in his grave."

How devastatingly witty. I'm sure Brantley and Crowe are crying themselves to sleep over this.

A bit unwarranted, and I like Josh Brolin. I thought he was excellent in Milk, W., and No Country for Old Men.

He's a great actor, but seemingly a douche.

To be fair, the consensus seems to be that Russel Crowe IS an asshole.

I'd like to know the exact context of Brolin's speech. It seems weird that he'd say "Thanks for the award, I'd like to thank my parents, but not Ben Brantley because he's a mother****er and Russel Crowe because he's an asshole".

IF that was indeed the case, I'd love for him to win the Oscar. To inject life into that corpse.

Yeah, but to paraphrase someone on ONTD: I'd take someone who throws a phone over someone who beats his wife anyday.

I read that he had had a little too much to drink, and I didn't get the impression that his comments were intentionally mean-spirited; Sean Penn started the roasting and Brolin continued it. I think he came off harsher than he intended.
