Can someone please explain the branding of the show? All their media platforms changed it to “Doubtfire” during the shutdown (which I had assumed was an official title change) - yet the website, the playbill and my ticket all say “Mrs. Doubtfire”.

Isn't that funny? I get when a show rebrands itself, there are countless examples, but when they re re brand it again? Never heard of that. I think they thought they didn't need the "Mrs", then when it wasn't selling incredibly well they went back to it so people knew it was based on the film? I don't know who could miss that but....such is life I guess.

The brief title change, like the change of color scheme from pink pastels to blue, was all part of an attempt to avoid potential backlash from trans folks and allies. My guess is that the word "Doubtfire" without a "Mrs." in front of it doesn't really make sense and isn't as instantly familiar to tourists, and so it was changed back almost immediately. The show itself also pretty clumsily makes a distinction between what Daniel is doing and an actual expression of gender. Though of course, if the show's producers and creators really cared, they would have just done anything else.
