My fiancee is auditioning for Sweeney Todd, and for the life of me I can't think of songs for her to sing. I'm pants at coming up for songs that relate to women's parts. That come out wrong. Anyway, any ideas?
I'd actually suggest 'The Miller's Son' from A Little Night Music. OK, it's not a Mrs. Lovett song, nor is anyone who plays Mrs. Lovett likely to ever play Petra, but it can show your ability to navigate a tricky melody and fast Sondheim-style lyrics, and could be a good thing.
For the combination of dark and wry, she might try: "So What?" from CABARET "I Am Easily Assimilated" from CANDIDE or maybe even "It's a Fine Life" from OLIVER (not so dark unless you act it so)
They don't have the range, but they have character: "Little Girls" from ANNIE "So Long, Dearie" from HELLO, DOLLY "No Time at All" from PIPPIN
