Posted: 9/9/10 at 11:37pmMy fiancee is auditioning for Sweeney Todd, and for the life of me I can't think of songs for her to sing. I'm pants at coming up for songs that relate to women's parts. That come out wrong. Anyway, any ideas?

Posted: 9/10/10 at 4:40amI'd actually suggest 'The Miller's Son' from A Little Night Music. OK, it's not a Mrs. Lovett song, nor is anyone who plays Mrs. Lovett likely to ever play Petra, but it can show your ability to navigate a tricky melody and fast Sondheim-style lyrics, and could be a good thing.

For the combination of dark and wry, she might try:
"So What?" from CABARET
"I Am Easily Assimilated" from CANDIDE
or maybe even
"It's a Fine Life" from OLIVER (not so dark unless you act it so)
They don't have the range, but they have character:
"Little Girls" from ANNIE
"So Long, Dearie" from HELLO, DOLLY
"No Time at All" from PIPPIN
Hope these might help.
