I'm not sure if this is the right board to post this on (let me know if it's not and I'll move it).
I was watching the original Music Man movie, and noticed that Marion was in Shipoopi. I don't remember her being in that number on stage, but it's been a year or two since the last time that I saw a live production, so I might be forgetting it. Anyone know?

When they switch a staged musical into a movie, they sometimes change the choreography. Marian and Harold even danced in Shipoopi in the updated Music Man with Mathew Broderick.
Of course Marian dances the shipoopi, shes in love with Harold, its been like that in every production Ive seen and been in. its in the script too.
I did this show three years ago, and unless something was changed our production, it's most definitely in the script. Because when all the pickalittle ladies swarm Marion for the Pick-a-Little reprise, one of them talks about how wonderful she looked dancing the Shipoopi with Harold.

Taryn, If I may correct you on something. What the ladies are talking about is when they are rehearsing their dance routine, Marian plays the piano for them and Harold asked her to dance. Pick-a-little Talk-a-little (reprise) is before shipoopi.

No, the Pick-a-Little reprise is right after Shipoopi. In the stage version, Shipoopi opens the second act (after the Greecian Erns (sp) and "It's You"). The original movie didn't include the Pick-a-Little reprise. I don't remember if it's in the Broderick version. Not that I'll risk watching it again to find out.
In the original script, Shipoopi is the first number of the second act. The kids interrupt the ladies Grecian Urn rehearsal to dance the Shipoopi.
However.....our director chose to move the Shipoopi to the middle of the act...to the actual Ice Cream Sociable. She felt that otherwise, the act tended to drag.
So..in our version, Harold dances with Marion during "It's You"....and then the Pick a Littles sweep in. She changed my line to "You looked so dear dancing with Professor Hill".
I'm not sure if this is how it was done in the last revival (although I have a feeling it might be, since our production was based on that show).
Oh...and our Marion definately dances the Shipoopi!
I saw the revival on Broadway and I didn't see her in it either. I was surprised because I was used to seeing her dance it in the movie. Perhaps it changes based on the dancing ability of the actress playing Marian?
