Musical Theater Colleges

CCM is a harsh school. They are good, but it most definately not an environment for everyone. Everyone I know of who went there either loved it or hated with a passion. No in betweens. Most frequent comment I hear about the school also that it is the type of school you go to if you want to be in the chorus for life.. although, some people, like Faith Price, went there and found stardom.

Well the thing with CCM is that the people that became famous leads, didnt do so until years after they left CCM and everyone asks...What happened between them graduating from CCM and making it on bway to let them learn to act. Since CCM only seems to care about look, voice and dance.

Boston is a good school on the rise, but over priced. Great Idea for Graduate work.

Oklahoma City is a great dept, my best friend is there, in fact he was Fred in KMK there last weekend. Loves it, they work you like hell and you come out with a great voice, where you can do opera or mt.

I've never heard of anything good about the undergrad dept at NYU for any theater thing, other than you are in the city and have the oppurtunity to work outside of school, since you will be lucky to see the stage twice while you are there.

Your choices for Auditioning are very good ones, but I also suggest you look into these other schools:

Northern Kentucky: Where I am, in cinnci, the rivals of CCM same success rate, better training, better summer stock chances, great faculty, and its half the price of all the scchools you are allready picking from.

Ithaca: Only an undergrad dept, and they have a great alumni association, so when you are down on your luck in the ccity, you have somewhere to turn.

Also get info from: Florida State, Central Florida, Carnegie Mellon and Roosevelt

Aren't Northwestern and the University of Michigan supposed to be good?

I'm looking at musical theater colleges too! One of the top ones I'm considering is Oklahoma City University. I'm from the Southwest and everyone knows thast if you want to study musical theater, OCU is the place to go! I saw their Kiss Me Kate production this weekend which was AWSOME! They had some fantastic singers and dancers and a huge orchestra! My family and I were really impressed!

I'm also thinking about NYU and Tisch. Anyone here know anything about them? Or AMDA?

I am a Musical Theatre major at Shorter College in Rome, Georgia and I must say it indeed offers the best musical theatre trianing in GA and in the Southeast. Many people who have graduated from here are now in professional touring shows, cruises, Metropolitan Opera House and a few on Broadway! It's a small Baptist private college and the training they offer here is excellent! It's highly recommended in the southeast! Go to www.shorter.edu !

FSU may be a party school but we work hard too!! I would look into our MT program, it's very good. And all I can say is I agree with the stuff said about CCM. I have 2 best friends that graduated from there and thjey loved it but neither is getting any work right now. Although in it's defense they have produced some great talent: Shoshana Bean, Lauren Kennedy, Liz Callaway.....very cocky school though! I say come down here with me and go to FSU:)

Point Park has a GREAT alumni list, Boston Conservatory, NYU Tisch... however, I think it has 20% to do with where you went to school, and 80% to do with what you have to offer a show. No diploma will help you if you dont have a huge amount of talent to back it up. But, good luck in your auditions!!

i heard Shoshana Bean was mentioned. I have a friend who literally worships her. I love her voice. king stevos and i did godspell, and i was introduced to Shoshana and all her glory. She's good stuff.

A word to those who might be wanting to apply to music school...DO IT NOW! I sent in my audition reservation to CCM in the beginning of September and they are still giving me a run around confirming a date. NYU has a deadline in December.

And thanks for the suggestion about Wagner, but I'm not considering it at this time.

Any thoughts on the Boston Conservatory? Anyone? Buler? Buler?

in the same boat kid! i'm lookin too! #1 is ocu...luv luv luv it. saw kiss me kate (very good! yay!) ummm...what can i say but i just ABSOLUTLY LOVE it there! spent 2 weeks there this summer and had a blast! woo! ummm... i've really been lookin to stay instate which means ou and uco... and possibly lookin into santa fe college. has anyone heard anything about santa fe? i know it's supposidly a pretty small school... they're coming to my school to auditon kids! randomly! and from what i hear are planning on giving out 1 or 2 full ride scholarships. but i have no idea what kind of program they have...im only a jr, but as i see it, it's never too early to start lookin! but luv ocu!!!
