Everyone can be showcased as all of the cast members double-up (or triple or more) in their roles. The casting info on mtishows.com says its for 11 (8 women, 6 men) but i think it can work with even fewer people by doubling up on more parts, or variations on the number of men/women mentioned there. its extrememly flexible in casting. some minor roles can even be changed to the other gender if necessary. look at it!

It seems like I saw Chess at a dinner theatre with a very small cast.
I'd also third (or fourth or whatever it is by now) Romance, Romance. I never saw it other than the little bit that was on the Tonys, but I absolutely adore the score.

Posted: 12/10/07 at 7:05pmRomance, Romance is a delightful little show that played in 1989 (I think). It was up against Phantom that year, I believe, and got lost in the crunch. However, it had several nominations, including Best Musical. It's two one-act musicals, with four performaners in each and the same people double in both casts. It has a nice score.

Here's a few not mentioned and might be good for you, as they're not frequently done all over the place.
No Way to Treat a Lady (Cast of 4) An off-broadway musical about a cop and a serial killer using each other to gain notoriety and fame. 1 Woman plays both lead characters' mothers as well as every murder victim.
Ruthless!: (Cast of 6) Off-broadway musical about a young girl who wants to be famous so badly that she kills everyone who stands in her way.
Hedwig and the Angry Inch: (Cast of 2 and onstage band) Concert style show that chronicles the life of a trans-sexual east german rock star.
I Sing! (cast of 5) Examines the intertwined lives and relationships of 5 gen-xers

Passion could be done with 10 with doubling I think (or with a few actors in very small cameo roles for the one scene). I think we cut one of the soldiers when we did it. Very intimate show. Also very challenging for a director.

Spelling Bee is a small cast. Nine roles, not including audience spellers and if you always have the spellers playing the parents etc.
