:) So I'm writing a letter to the theatre critic in the town I used to live in, who made a comment about how rare it is for movies to be made into stage musicals.
Obviously, we know this isn't the case.
So, I need non-musical movies that were made into stage musicals.
So far I've got:
Nine (Fellini's 8 1/2)
Little Shop (and I don't mean the movie with Ellen Greene. I mean the older, non musical one.)
Spamalot
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
The Spitfire Grill
The Full Monty
Hairspray
The Producers

The movie that A Little Night Music is based on is called Smiles on a Summer Night.
The Light in the Piazza is one, I think......

Technically, Passion was a novel first and My Fair Lady was a play (but there is a film version of Pygmalion).

Well Cabaret had the Stories of Berlin book, but there was also that movie called "I Love the Camera", I believe

Well, Pygmalion was a very successful play (by Shaw) that was then adapted into a film. Lerner and Loewe based My Fair Lady on the play, not the film.

Then you'll have to weed out "Chicago"...a 1920's book/magazine serial based on a sensational real life trial, made into a Silent movie, "Chicago", then a 1940's movie, "Roxie Hart" (Ginger Rogers version), then the stage production "Chicago" in the 70's, then the revival in 96!
What a journey for this story to take!
