Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks." Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
What do people think of the Sister Act OLC album? I listen to it just because of Patina Miller but My GOD! (pun intended) It is such a good album. Funny, great score and the vocals are just WOW!! Recommend it to everyone!
Sweeney, Little Night Music, Company, Merrily, Sunday in the Park, Follies, Assassins, Catch Me if You Can, Hairspray, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Women on the Verge, Drood, A Chorus Line, Dreamgirls, Chicago, Cabaret, Curtains, Kiss of the Spider Woman, My Fair Lady, Carousel
Enjoyed the score of Sister Act more than the show itself (which was just OK, IMHO) - and as mentioned by others, I'd have liked to have a Broadway Cast Recording. Similarly in the past few years, Catch Me if You Can and Women on the Verge have scores I enjoy often, but the shows themselves were problematic.
Fiddler on the Roof OBCR is a must have I think Hair OBCR and the revival are pretty good Cabaret-it's worth getting the OBCR and the 1998 recording-which was done live
"Sheridan Smith and Jill Halfpenny, both of whom won Olivier awards for their performances. It's a live recording, which adds a lot of fun and life."
I just listen to it 3 times and i have to say "Legally Blonde Remix" is sooooooo much fun! thats a great song, however i think overall the OBC is a lot better. I dont really like the lyric changes in Ireland and Smith was brilliant but her voice seemed a bit (don't kill me for this) old for the part. Her voice was a just a bit more mature
A few less mentioned selections I have in heavy rotation: Ain't Misbehavin' OBC Anyone Can Whistle '95 Carnegie Hall Concert Billy Elliott LCR Camelot OBC Candide (Prince '74 revival) Carousel '94 BC Finian's Rainbow OBC Grey Gardens OBC A Man of No Importance OBC Pacific Overtures ENO (English National Opera) Rags OBC The Rothschilds OBC Showboat (Prince '93 BC) Wonderful Town ('05 BC)

I saw both the Broadway and London productions live and I get what you're saying about Sheridan's voice, but her performance was so brilliant, it was never an issue while watching her. One of the best star-turn performances I've ever seen.

Got Evita but the Revival and I absolutely LOVE IT!! I don’t know how i could have missed such a brilliant score. I loved the storytelling and music so much i’m doing it as my Research Project for history (Eva herself not the musical). But when I read things about the Revival, it seems to be quite divided. Some says it shows a more reasonable and truthful way that Evita “ran” Argentina but some people really hated Elena Roger and i was wondering why?? I taught she was truly amazing!
The 1993 London Studio Cast Recording of Cabaret with Maria Friedman as Sally is a total must have. It's pretty much the entire score, so it's pretty thrilling.
The 1968 Original London Cast Recording of Cabaret is also fantastic, with Judi Dench giving a very gripping and amazing performance as Sally.
