like a cheap rip-off of RENT, almost the same idea, but not nearly as good, and almost a waste of time because it was almost the same thing as RENT, in terms of the message......I really don't know anything about it, would you guys agree with that??????

Brooklyn is somewhat like Rent. Not that much. It's more show-tuney than Rent. BKLYN is more of a showcase of music (to me) than a show. It's a performers revue hahah!
I dont think Brooklyn is at all like RENT even though thats what it seems to aim for. I guess you could call it the poorman's RENT although they cant be compared, in my mind. RENT deals with much heavier, real, serious topics and the construction of it (music, book, etc) seems to be much more realized and organized. Brooklyn, aside from having a flawless, amazingly talented cast, somewhat falls apart. With the exception of Eden's jaw-dropping Once Upon A Time and Ramona's powerful Raven, the songs seems to disintigrate before ones' eyes. That being said, they are totally different shows but if I had to compare, RENT would be the better of the two for sure.
Um, no. The only similarites in my view are the poverty of the characters and the fact that the producers of Brooklyn desperately wanted to tap into the RENT fanbase demographic.
RENT is based on La Boeheme, with the lower east side stepping in for Paris and AIDS taking the place of TB. Brooklyn tries to be an urban fairytale about a girl finding her long lost father and this kind of odd American Idol-esque competition.
So, I'm sure many might disagree, but I see few similarities.
And seriously? You could have done a search for Brooklyn and gleaned a TON of information about the show. Or better yet, just PM tinytoon who is BWW's biggest Brooklyn fan, and call it a day.
:)
ETA: ok, ok they do have a vaguely similar musical style--in that they're both more based on popular music than traditional broadway--but the thrust of your question was about "the message" so I didn't mention that.

It seems like everyone used that as the way to diss the show. "Oh Brooklyn is a rip off of Rent." But whatev, they are two different shows. But yeah, they do have similar influences, but Rent has so much more substance. Brooklyn really is a "performer's revue" or showcase. A lot of peopel hate it. I agree that it is lacking severely in material, but it was great to be in the audience with the power of each performer's voices. If you accepted it for being flawed and just a pop song showcase, you would enjoy it like I did.
I thought it was more entertaining than Little Women.
While Brooklyn is a fairy tale, it still deals with real life issues.. I think people compare the two just because of the music style. The only rent "root" that's in Brooklyn is Karen Olivo. :) I love Rent, but Brooklyn is a way of life :p
Tiny--you do know that Victoria Clark does not wear the 'hat' in the show...?
I know, she's telling that to Kelli :)
