Any guys every perform the song 'My Simple Christmas Wish?'
I'm doing it as an encore for a classical recital.
I'm looking for male names to replace Barbara Streisand and Bettie Davis, preferably classical or legit (not pop) singers who have the same respective reputations, so they make sense.
In case you don't know the song, just see if you can replace these lines with male names"
"Barbara Streisand had it all and I can do what she can do"
"Was Bettie Davis pleasan?, well I seriously doubt it, still she was rich, everyone adored her and the world was at her feet, and she was a bitch, it's obvious that I have gotten nowhere being sweet"
Any help at all would be appreciated.
I saw Hugh Panaro sing that song at a private benefit last year and he changed the names to "Ricky Martin" & "Madonna." Not exactly what you're looking for in terms of similarity, but that was one male version I heard.
I've sung the song as written.
I'd leave it as is. It's not as if their reputations for being difficult are some big gay secret.
The only way I could see them not going over is if the croud you're performing for is too young to know of them.

I have also sung it as it is written. I think the song is more about personality. No changes are really needed.

Jason Graae sang a version of this song on his "An Evening of Self Indulgence" cd, and I believe he did change the names to make it more male-friendly, but for the life of me I can't remember what names he used.

When I saw Jason he used Nathan Lane for Bette Davis.
Shawn Ryan sings it and it is not changed but then again he is openly gay and so it does not matter....
Plus I think the song should just stay the way it is....
And they did change it when they did Listen to My Heart: The Songs of David Friedman. Alix Korley did a version just called My Simple Wish (for those of us who are jewish, muslim and the such)
