So I was onstage in AA 4 and my dad was in AA 6, which were both amazing seats. There were no understudies; it was nice to see the full cast perform. When the whole cast came out through the curtains in the beginning of the show, I became very excited. Even though it was my twelfth time seeing the show, I was still estatic! Out of the twelve times I've seen the show, tonight was the best I've ever seen it!
Mamma Who Bore Me- When Lea is on, she's on. Honestly, her voice is like an angel singing from "heaven". Hah no pun intended. It was the first time I believed her. Granted, the other times I've seen Lea she was amazing. But for some reason tonight was just surreal, every note she sang I believed. She gave a flawless performance and was amazing, especially here.
"Stork" Scene- Honestly I don't know why everyone hates Kate. I love her as the adult woman and I think she's just as good if not better than Christine. This scene was great. The audience was very responsive and both Lea and Kate were exceptional.
Mamma Who Bore Me (Reprise)- Being in the front row onstage truly is surreal. The energy that the girls give off during this number is uncomparable. Lea was so fierce and really was into the song. I say this time and time again when I review this show but Lauren always catches my eye. I love Lauren, honestly she's amazing but she is too melodramatic during this number. The excessive and uneeded stomping was very distracting. I love seeing actors get into songs but I hate when they get too into them that it takes away from the song. Oh Remy, wake up! Enjoy the show! Stop looking so bored all the time!!
All That's Known- J.Groff was great today. He didn't strain on some parts like he usually does(usually towards end). There really isn't a whole lot to say about this song other than it was great!!
The BITCH Of Living- Wow. Just wow. This is honestly one of my favorite songs in the show and everyone was AMAZING! Blake Daniel was so into it! HA He even broke a piece of the chair during this song! See the boys don't cross the line between amazingness and overdoing things. I loved this song and being onstage during this was heavenly. The audience was clapping for about three minutes after the boys finished- they loved this!!!
My Junk- I love this song! JBW was fabuluous and was hysterical! The audience loved him and were laughing hysterically! I just love this song because it has so much inner meaning, if you will. Once one really disects the song and finds what the figurative language really means this song becomes so much better. This was amazing and everyone was spot on!!
Touch Me- Skylar PWNS this song. Like seriously, he is god-like! I love his new riff and he always does this song perfectly. Everyone else was very good as well but I just felt like some recognition to Skylar was needed especially in this scene! I always get goosebumps when they all line up towards the back of the stage and are like "touch me*skylar riff** It's just so beautiful and I think the staging for this number is perfect.
The Word Of Your Body- This is probably my least favorite song in the whole show. I feel like after everyone rocks out during Touch Me this song is kind of in the show to waste time. I feel like it's blah and honestly I don't like this song. But nonetheless, everyone was great and of course Jon and Lea gave stellar performances.
The Dark I Know Well- Hahha I totally understand what everyone means when they say Glenn is creepy when he says "Ilse, story time!" AHHA But Lilli and Lauren gave me goosebumps during this number and they were soso good as usual. They never cease to amaze me and their powerful voices nicely pair with the power of this song.
And Then There Were None- Aw I think Blake Bashoff is so great as Moritz. Dare I say I think he is better than Gallagher himself. I don't know what it is about him that makes me like him so much. I love his line delivery and I think his voice is very solid and strong. I love how he is like a mini-Johnny. He is great and he and Kate were perfect here! This is one of my favorite numbers and I was not disapointed tonight.
The Mirror Blue Light- I love this song. It definetly took a while for the song to grow on me but I really love it now. Groff was great and his "dance" was amazing- he got so into it and made like grunting noises. Haha
I Believe- This was the first time I felt like both Melchior and Wendla were naive. I felt like they were so great tonight at trying to portray the childhood innocence. There's not much to say here other than it was intense, if you will.
The Guilty Ones- Honestly, this is probably the only song in the show I don't like. Like with The Word of Your Body, I feel like this is just thrown into the show to take up time. I feel like it really has no importance, but that's just my opinion.
Don't Do Sadness- I was in awe when Blake was done. He rocked out and he WAS Moritz. He can hit those high notes and he gave a groundbreaking performance. This song is so amazing when done properly, and I must say that Blake was perfect tonight.
Blue Wind- Lauren, I love your voice. It's so different, so unique. But please, please, please, for your last few performances don't rush through your lines. Give the lines some meaning when you say them. I hate how she goes from "he put a gun against my breast" to "So Moritz how are you(In perky voice)". But the song as a whole was great and when Blake and Lauren sang together they really were magnificent.
Left Behind- Groff was on. End of story. For the first time ever, I cried during this show because it was so sweet and so pure. I loved it.
Totally F*CKed- This IS MY JUNK! No joke. This is a major reason as to why I sit onstage. Everyone got so into this song, it was intense to say the least. People were jumping in front of me and I felt like I was dreaming. When the song ended everyone was screaming and shouting for about five minutes. The audience loved this number, as they should(haha cheesy Hanschen pun).
The Word Of Your Body Reprise- Blake and JBW were just as good as always. I do hate, though, how this scene is for comic relief. But nonetheless, the audience got a kick out of this scene and found it to be histerical.
Whispering- This song is amazing. Lea was perfect here. She was fierce and naive at the same time. She was absolutely astonishing and I think she is AMAZING, if you can't tell. Remy fell asleep during this (see below)
Those You've Known- Good as always. This song makes me sad because I realize the show is almost over =[. But it was good, not too much to say here.
Song of Purple Summer- Having Lauren sing in my ear at the beginning of this song was surreal. She is so great. I love when the whole cast stands at the front of the stage towards the end of this song. It was so beautiful and excpetional tonight.
Some Quick Thoughts:
1. Remy always looks dead when I see the show. She's 18 and is on BROADWAY. There are a million other girls who would love to be in her shoes. She seems so stoic and I feel like she doesn't appreciate being on Broadway. When she sat next to me for the second half, she fell asleep during Whispering. I mean come on Remy, show some enthusiasm for being in such an amazing show! Like every time I see her onstage she looks BORED TO DEATH! She was huffing and puffing next to me onstage.
2. Stage door was amazing. Basically everyone came out, except Brian Johnson. I saw Gerard and Phoebe run across the street after the show... I don't know what happened. Lea stagedoored which was nice to see and everyone was very sweet!
I loved the show and am going back for my 13th time ont he 16th =D
I hope you all liked the review!!!
