Hey all. I'm finalizing my plans for my upcoming trip to NYC from March 10 -- 13th. So far, this is what I intend to see:

Sat. March 10th: 8:00 pm "Chicago"
Sun. March 11th: 2:30 p.m. "Chicago" / 7:00 p.m. "Chicago"
(notice a pattern?)

Mon. March 12th : 8:00 p.m. "Evita"

I think I can squeeze in a 2 or 3 p.m. show on Sat. March 10th, as I'm arriving before noon on that day. I'd love go see "Other Desert Cities" just to see the delightful Judith Light, but I'm open to other suggestions. On a diff note, I'd be curious to meet someone from this board...just to talk about theatre in general and this board in particular. I almost met PalJoey one time. from RC in Austin,Texas

"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)

Sorry, this isn't meant to be rude but I don't know why you're seeing Chicago so many times. I enjoy it well enough and you clearly love it but if you live in Texas and probably come to New York once a year at most seeing it 3 times in two days seems to be a bit much.

I would highly recommend Other Desert Cities but again you've sort of limited yourself to only seeing one show besides Evita and Chicago based on your current plan. There are many other shows I think would be well worth a visit along with ODC but since you only have one slot, I think Other Desert Cities is a good pick.

Sounds fun just out of curiosity why are you seeing Chicago so many times? I'm not trying to be rude I've never seen it and I'm just wondering. I don't know if you like superstar but that is in previews during your trip if you are interested. Have fun!

Well, I knew this would come up. It's a logical question. When I first visited NYC in 2006, I saw "Sweeney Todd" and a few other shows. I briefly considered "Chicago". In subsequent trips, I didn't give much thought to "Chicago". When I finally saw it in March 2011 (and the tour on back to back weekends in Fort Worth and Houston), I became a fan, obviously. The fabulous Terra C. McLeod played "Velma." I thought to myself that I've missed out on a fantastic show all those years, because I (personal feeling) had taken it for granted. I knew of the show...of the music, but I pretty much didn't give much thought to actually seeing the show. Plus, I love the music, the singing, the dancing. I listen to the cast recording on my car cd and MP3 player (when I go to the gym). (I do listen to other music, don't you know.) I've seen a variety of shows over the years on Broadway. There are indeed many good shows that are playing, but this time around, I wanted to do something different. I also admire the cast of "Chicago" because they go out of their way to promote their show in a variety of ways. They also support worthy charities throughout the year. By seeing the show multiple times in a single trip, it will be a memorable experience...something I will never forget. Plus..the "Men of Chicago" are easy on the eyes too. I'm in awe of Ryan Lowe's talent and Michael Cusumano's dancing (to name two of the cast members). So, there you have it. I understand if people find my decision, sort of unusual. But, I'm going to have an awesome time seeing "Chicago" on multiple occasions. from RC in Austin, Texas

I have seen many shows multiple times within the same day or across two days (e.g. Bernadette Peters!NIGHT MUSIC, Mazzie!Tour!NEXT TO NORMAL). But these shows had a limited shelf life and exciting casting or understudies that I would never have the opportunity to see again. I would consider only seeing CHICAGO twice. You can continue to take it for granted because it will be around the next time you come, and maybe then there will be some exciting stunt-casting to make it worth a revisit.

Oh I get it I feel the same way about the phantom, and it makes a little more sense now I just couldn't understand the 3shows in 2days. You're going to have a great time just don't see it so much that you'll get bored I'd hate for that to happen to someone.

I don't think I could ever get bored with "Chicago." However, I've seen "Wicked" twice on Broadway and 3 times on tour, so I guess I need a "Wicked" break for a while. (Guess what show is playing right now in Austin?) from RC in Austin, Texas P.S. I do hope I meet at least one BWW member, just to discuss all things Broadway. Plus, I also have a goal of taking a picture in front of every Broadway theatre house. I'll try, but it will difficult as I always travel solo.

I don't live in the city so that's probably a no but sounds like a fun idea but please be careful before you agree to meet a stranger anywhere...

Also, I understand your love for a particular musical and don't doubt that you'll have a fantastic time, I just wondered if with such a limited time three visits is worthwhile (I did see Hairspray five times, which is my record for most times seeing the same production of a show, but that was over several years). Obviously that's your choice though and if you're content with it, who am I to tell you otherwise?

Thanks for the concern, but by all means I would meet someone in a public place. I recall that during my first visit to NYC in 2006, I was walking the streets of NYC at 11:30 p.m., so I could meet a Village Voice columnist at a now defunct club called Happy Valley. I had a slice of pizza at a corner place...think it was across from Parsons School of Design. I wish there was a permanent Museum of Theatre. from RC in Austin, Texas
