Apparently so did the the bulk of the audience at last Saturday's matinee.
If my sister and the people she was with are any gauge, The Addams Family will be a hit. She said it was very, very funny and perfectly cast. Her only criticism is it could have used a few less songs. The audience apparently leapt to their feet for a standing ovation.
Now it should be said that my sister is from Rhode Island and one of her favorite TV shows is Unwrapped on the Food Network, in fact she tivos it. But that said, I think she is representative of a lot of visitors to Broadway - who pay full price for their tickets.
It will be interesting to see how this show fares. Will it be The Producers or will it be Young Frankenstein?

Posted: 3/31/10 at 2:01pmI love "Unwrapped"! It's total advertising, but a lot of what they show is really fascinating. And I adore Marc Summers.

Posted: 3/31/10 at 2:23pmHONESTLY...I had a great time and loved the show. It may not have made my top 3 list of all time....but it was just a lot of fun and I'd be happy to see it again if the opportunity arises.

Posted: 3/31/10 at 2:40pmI thought the first act was incredibly fun despite a pretty weak score. The second act slogged and was really unfocused, though the score got better. Could use some more pruning/focusing/truly great jokes, but this is NO Young Frankenstein. Maybe it won't run longer than YF, because of the appeal of the original cast, but it is a much, much better show.

Posted: 3/31/10 at 2:46pmI'm really not THAT harsh of a critic compared to some theater fans, but I just thought it was one of the worst things I've ever seen and the only time I genuinely laughed is when Jackie Hoffman was ad-libbing. The crowd I saw it with (second preview) absolutely ate it up though, so I can see it having some success.

Posted: 3/31/10 at 2:50pmI have a friend who saw it over the weekend and was very underwhelmed. She said "it was ok, but you can skip it."

Sally:
Though I didn't like "The Addams Family," either the book or score, I share your sister's liking for "Unwrapped."
"Her tastes are not especially sophisticated, but she loves fun and funny things."
I like your sister's outlook. It's not important to be sophisticated; it's being able to enjoy the fun things in life.

Posted: 3/31/10 at 6:00pmI have to agree in saying that the average person will like this show. It may not get great reviews or win many(if any) Tony Awards, but it has tourist appeal(think Mamma Mia!).
