I believe they were originally running through March 17, and their first extension was to April 28th

Which means that, had they not extended, they would have made a sliver of a profit at best, while selling out the entire time. I guess the investors were banking on Cranston getting the type of reviews he did. Had he not, it probably would not have broken even; but it did, which is great. By the end of the season,I am thinking that there would have been a good number of non-musicals which turned a profit, with star-power (or iconic status, e.g., TKAM and HP) being the key factor.

I doubt that The Ferryman will recoup, which is a terrible shame; despite having a great production and getting great reviews, it did not have a box-office name to attract audiences the way this show (which I generally enjoyed, but didn't think was actually very good) did. I hope I am wrong, but I assume they must have pretty large weekly nut with the size of the cast, coupled with the number of children which I assume incurs extra expense.
