Very few theaters left for new musicals. Purple Rain feels like a lock if the out of town goes well. That leaves a handful circling. Benjamin Button or 42 Balloons in a small house? Wanted, Galileo, Goddess and Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil have been circling for a while. What's New Pussycat and Bull Durham both had buzzy workshops recently. Soul Train? Any insider intel?

I don't know if I'd say there's "very few theaters left". Just going through the roster, even if some of the long-running shows that are losing steam (Gatsby, Moulin Rouge, & Juliet, etc.) stay open through April, there's still plenty of real estate for new shows to come in.

It seems like Disney is currently workshopping a new musical in NYC right now. Does anyone know what show this could be?

Bull Durham will be at Paper Mill this fall and I know Gatsby transferred fairly quickly but I think that was just due to an early closure from Here Lies Love so not sure that Bull Durham could pull off the same kind of turnaround (even if momentum was there, which isn't guaranteed).

When Bull premiered in Atlanta years ago it wasn't well received. I know a lot can change in ten years, but it seems like shows that have these long gestation periods rarely if ever turn things around enough to become a hit in New York.
