I agree bestbar-Brantley dissected it well....i also thought Matthew Murray was right on target as well, though I rarely agree with any of his reviews. I thought he nailed it on this one.

GOOD NEWSIES, BAD NEWSIES
With that NY Times review, I'd say it's pretty much a done deal that ONCE will easily win the Best Musical Tony.
Memphis.
Newsies is fine, if you like high-energy, low-thought entertainment; if you would prefer a vinyl placemat of the Mona Lisa over the real thing.
LOL That is one of the worst analogies I've ever seen. Buying a placemat and seeing the painting are not mutually exclusive ideas. You can enjoy them both for very different reasons.
I said "prefer." As in, "you may prefer a cheap plastic copy to the real thing, because it's so much easier to deal with - no thought, no effort."
Read the novel "England, England" if you need help understanding the concept.

It seems like once every show someone says, "I never agree with Murray, but he nailed it on this one."
I can't believe none of the reviewers remarked on the devastation that was the removal of Patrick's mother from this piece.

Glad to see all the good reviews! Nothing wrong with an upbeat crowd pleaser- I really hope it tours at some point so I can see it!
Ah, watching the Disney freaks come unglued is such sport!
