Posted: 1/27/07 at 1:10pmI think this is one of the funniest plays ever produced, that is of course if it has good direction and casting. I loved every minute of it, both reading and watching. I never found a moment of it tedious, and was constantly delighted by it.

When done right... Brilliant
When not done right...Train wreck
I love reading the script. It's one of the few that makes me laugh out loud.

Posted: 1/27/07 at 2:33pmMy high school did a production of Noises Off as our spring show last year, and it was hilarious. I was the stage manager for the show, and I could barely do my job, I was laughing so hard, as was every one up in the booth who were running the lights and sound. As for the third act, I personally thought it was a great act, especially because the girl playing Mrs. Clackett was amazing. She is a simply amazing comedic actress. In the third act, when Philip falls down the stairs, and Mrs. Clackett has to cover for the noise, she went all out and just started throwing things off of tables and throwing pillows and screaming. The audience loved it...it was hilarious. The entire cast did a fabulous job. On a side note, the set can be quite difficult to turn on a smaller stage, and it took quite a beating from the actors, but it held together. Overall, I find Noises Off to be a hilarious show.

Posted: 1/27/07 at 3:23pmThe local high school did a production that was excellent and the set "flip" was one of the most ingenious constructions I have seen anywhere. But if someone is weak in the cast, or the timing goes off, it is like a house of cards - it really is choreography.

The original production with Louden was downright hilatious. I have to agree that the LuPone revival was uneven.
The high school production of NOISES OFF that I directed about 15 years ago is still remembered fondly by those who saw it. I look back on that experience with pride.

Posted: 1/28/07 at 4:23pmI was fortunate in seeing the original Broadway production, directed by Michael Blakemore. It was the funniest show I have ever seen in over 50 years of theatregoing. I found myself continuously laughing out loud, something that is a rarity for me. I agree with others that have said that the director needs to be a choreographer, too. The timing of that production was just amazing, as was the acting.

Posted: 1/28/07 at 5:17pmI didn't mean to come across in my earlier post as saying that I didn't think Act III was funny in and of itself (it seems that some posters thought that's what I meant?) I know it can be the funniest act in the play if it's done right. I just meant that for me, when I saw the revival on Broadway, Act III was not as funny as it could and should have been. I agree with the poster who said that the actors all seemed to be working like crazy--that's it exactly. You were very aware that they were working at it, when it should have just been seemingly effortless mayhem.
