In my opinion, and most of the people in the audience would agree with me based on the applause given the performers, Lea Salonga gave the best performance of the night. Sometimes it is hard to "sell" a song that no one has heard before, but Lea simply wowed the audience. Her voice was crystal clear, and you could actually understand the lyrics. She connected with the audience, too. Michael Cavanaugh, who opened the evening with "New York State Of Mind" was excellent. Anika, talented Ms. Rose, sang her heart out, and boy was she marvelous! Diana DeGarmo was gorgeous and sang very well, too.
The woman, introduced as a grandaughter of the owner of the Yankees, sang Defying Gravity! Her performance would be the perfect demostration of how NOT to sing! She yelled every note, every word, and it was very, very painful to listen to her! She had vocal power, alright, but she did NOT know how to control it or use the microphone properly! I saw many people cringe and actually cover their ears as she sang. Bad, bad, bad singer!
