Posted: 12/18/04 at 3:19amI am hopefully going to an acting school in the fall 05 semester in NYC. I am applying to AADA, AMDA, NYU, and Julliard, and The New School. Does anybody know of any other good schools in NYC? and has anybody gone to these schools and how did you like it?

Posted: 12/18/04 at 3:51amThere has been a lot of discussion here about acting schools and private acting classes so a search of this board might help you. There is also The Actor's Studio, Neighborhood Playhouse, HB Studios, and many more. Some schools have closed (maybe even some of those mentioned) while some new, smaller ones have opened. Acting schools are not for everyone, sometimes private classes is a better way to go but some people might need the structure of a school. You will find many different opinions about this so I suggest that see if you and monitor some classes and talk to former students (recent ones) so that you can choose what would be right for you.

I took some classes at The American Academy of Dramatic Arts in High school. I loved that place.
I also went to Weiss Baron School of Television.
That was many years ago.

AMDA- not a good rep. they seem to accept anyone. some good graduates like jesse tyler ferguson and marissa jaret winokur
AADA - riding a reputation from it's heyday about 50 years ago.
Juilliard - supposed to be the best acting school in the country. tough to get into, i hear it's tough to survive, but chances of working after school: high. this is one of the schools that does a showcase at the end of the four years that every agent in the city goes to and fights to get people.
NYU - they feed you out to a bunch of different schools that you could go to without going to NYU and it would be MUCH less expensive, but if you want a degree then go here.
Circle In The Square - I hear is a good program
Stella Adler, Neighborhood playhouse... they're all crap shoots to me. No guarantees on successful students coming out of them.
HB Studios is supposed to be good.
The New School - they have taken over The Actor's Studio - which also had it's heyday about 50 years ago. It's has renewed from because of INSIDE THE ACTOR'S STUDIO.
There isn't any right choice, or right path, ultimately when you get out of school, it's a matter of determination, creativity and who you know...
