NYC Ballet. Is it worth going to

I have never been to the NYC ballet and I have only been to one ballet before. Is the NYC Ballet company good? Is it worth trying to catch one of their shows?

In one word ..... YES YES YES YES it is without a doubt worth it.

For anyone who is hesitant about the ballet, I would recommend Double Feature at NYCB, which is running January 31st-February 6th. Choreographed by Susan Stroman, it's a full length narrative ballet. Costumes by William Ivey Long; sets by Robin Wagner.

ETA: It was just announced today that they'll be holding two free dress rehearsals.

Double Feature is the first full-length ballet by Broadway phenomenon and five-time Tony Award-winner Susan Stroman. Created in 2004, the ballet is a hilarious homage to the silent movie era set to the grand music of Irving Berlin and Walter Donaldson. Ms. Stroman will be conducting both rehearsals, which are open to the general public. It is a rare opportunity to witness an artist rehearsing and coaching a work of their own making. The rehearsals will feature sets by Broadway great Robin Wagner and costumes by the acclaimed William Ivey Long, and the full NYCB Orchestra.

Act I "The Blue Necklace" can be seen on Wednesday, January 30.
Doors open at 1 pm. Rehearsal begins at 1:15 pm and concludes at 2:30 pm.
Act II "Makin' Whoopee!" can be seen on Thursday, January 31.
Doors open at 1:15 pm. Rehearsal begins at 1:30 pm and concludes at 2:45 pm.

I would say yes but that's also because it's such a big part of my childhood. My grandmother used to take me to the nutcracker every year and I also had a lot of friends who were in the American Ballet Company (which puts on the NY Ballet) when they were younger. With that in mind though, I still think it's worth seeing at least once, especially if you like dance. I personally love the nutcracker beyond just for sentimental reasons.
