NYC Trip!!!

I know this is a bit early, but I don't think I'll have access to a computer (at least one w/ good dial-up speed) over Christmas break.

ANYHOO. I'm going to see Wicked on Jan. 7! But before everyone starts in on the whole "Why waste your money on it..." thing, I really don't care. It's not the fact that I'm going to see the show- it's the fact that this will be my first trip to NYC. Ever.

As far as I know, we'll be having some free time before the show, but I really don't know what to do! Plus I have a hard time with directions-I always manage to get lost in downtowm Pittsburgh, for Chrissakes.

So, what I'm asking here is that, with so little time, what should I do in the city? Help is much appreciated!!

You can spend a whole day (or any part thereof) at the Museum of Natural History. Get a full day pass and see everything. I specifically enjoyed the Frogs exhibition (I think that it's held over until January). I also went in the space theatre and they also have iMax films that you can watch.

Well, there are so many great things to do, that I even do as a New Yorker, that are very much enjoyed by the tourists.
Skating in Central park
Looking at the tree at Rockefeller Center
Looking at the holiday windows at macys, lord and taylor, and bloomingdales
The Metropolitin Museum of Art
Chinatown and Soho
The Museum of Natural History
A guided tour of the Metropolitin Opera House and Radio City
Shopping on Fifth Avenue

Definately Colony Music. Oh, and speaking of stores, try the book store next to the St James Theatre, across from the Majestic (can't remember the name of it. Or, if you are like me, next to The Producers and across from Phantom lol)

Forgot to add this in, but the only thing I'm gonna try to do is visit the Nederlander. Oh, and see if I can hang out by the stage door after the show (but I doubt that.)

Fabala - I LOVE planning people's trips, esp. to NYC. You have no idea. I second capnkidd on checking out the Novotel - I stayed there once - the rooms are average, but it's worth having brunch or drinks in the lobby where it overlooks Times Square. (Keep in mind that I don't remember if security by the elevator checks that you're a registered guest before you enter - or is that the Doubletree...)

Also, you MUST go to Central Park and The Met! It's always the highlight of my NYC trips! (And by "always", I mean...the two times I've been. hehe) And if you want kitsh camp and you're not picky about food quality, you should check out Ellen's Stardust Diner for milkshakes and dessert, at the very least because it's cheesy and cute and the waiters sing oldies! (But again, not the greatest chow.)

Shopping - You know, is H&M a NYC or an American chain? Because I LOVE LOVE LOVE that store (there's one on 5th) and I haven't found it in Washington before. And check out Greenwich and SoHo for your vintage desires!

And don't even get me started on the restaurants.

Whatever you do, never ever eat hot dogs or pretzels off of the Sabrett hot dog stands. The nuts and other carts are fine, supposedly...but stay far away from the hot dogs.

I can't tell people how to eat or what to do. Not only is it KIND of rude (which I don't mind,) but I doubt she would listen to me. I don't dislike people who eat meat, that's ridiculous. But, I absolutely loathe and have no respect for people who insist on wearing fur and see nothing wrong with it.

True. I respect that you're a vegetarian. I agree with you on a lot of your animal rights points. I don't call myself an activist anymore though because I stopped being a vegetarian a few years ago (simply because I am a weak person with an affinity for chicken and steak and a dislike of soy) so to call myself an animal rights activist would be hypocritical. However, aside from the meat-eating, I try to stay as animal-friendly as possible. I donate to PETA. No leather, no fur, no animal-tested products (I'm VERY anal about that - in fact, PETA provided me with resources to conduct an animal testing evalation that won me a few awards a couple of years ago!), no setting ants on fire with a magnifying glass...

Oh yeah, topic. So...is Wicked the only show you're seeing, FC?

hahahaha, I always got such a kick out of that. I dont understand why people buy these fake bags. Does it give off the impression that they have money? Is that what they think? I don't understand, care to explain?
