Actually, I wouldn't care less if I got a designer bag. I'm happy with my little black purse.

God, I need a detailed map. WHY did I throw away that NYC tourist guide my mom gave me a few years ago???

Sure, if I rationalize my actions, I won't be kicking myself so much. Actually, as you pointed out a while back, Asians are the highest consumers of LV products, and it's true. It would be overstating to say you're required to have an LV accessory when you go to a nice Asian restaurant or boutique, but if you want to be treated with even a bit of respect, at least in the Asian-saturated Vancouver population, it sure doesn't hurt. I had been thinking at the time that my crappy bag would blend in nicely with all the authentic ones that the "other Asians" bought, but...no. So then I spent CAD$300 on a real one, felt damn stupid about it, but at least I get good service at Chinese restaurants. And THAT makes it all worth while. Or so I keep telling myself.

That's so interesting! Thank you for sharing that. I just think that the reason bags like that are so in demand is because it's thought to make you look like you have more money, possibly more dignified (hardly anymore,) or something like that. Back before fake bags, only the wealthiest people had them but now that they're literally available to everyone, you can't walk one block in NYC without seeing atleast one LV bag. No one thinks they're real anymore because you just assume it's fake, see what I mean? I think it's so strange. I know what you're saying about how you get served in restaurants and maybe even better service in stores while shopping. I'm a guy, so I don't carry a purse (thank god,) but I have 2 LV pieces and people automatically think since you have a $250 wallet, you're ready to go on a shopping spree. A lot of times the service really is better you're right!

And now this thread has turned into my faggy shallowness when it comes to designers and will probably be moved to the off topic board as I've successfully babbled for literally 10 minutes now.

Hey, I understand the whole "designer" importance. I live in Southwest PA, and anyone who would own a $250 wallet/purse is automatically ready for a shopping spree.

Another question- when's the best time to wait at the stage door? And do performers come out for matinee shows?

I think the best time to wait at the stage door is right after the show - before the show is really quite rude, in my opinion, but it's up to you, and you'd need to know what time they show up.

PErformers usually come out between shows. I don't wait at stage doors any more, but I used to when I was younger and quickly found out that the only time they really don't come out is if they're pretty big stars and are just ordering dinner in or something. This happened to me with Heather Headly and Adam Pascal in AIDA way back, Vanessa Redgrave, and Vanessa Williams. I wouldn't worry though, but it's no guarantee.

If you're thinking Wicked, I don't think Idina comes out between shows, or if she does, it's because she's rushing off to yoga or something (no, I don't follow this closely, but I remember reading it on one of these threads). I know Hugh Panaro doesn't come out after matinee, much to my hormonal disappointment. And please don't go before the show. Just...no.

Well...I'll leave if encounter the fangirls that I hear about. *shudders* Hate fangirls.

ETA: I'll try to find a schedule, if any. I only ask because there could be a very good chance that my group will have to go automatically back to the bus, making a stage door trip out of the question.

If you're talking Wicked, I think that's a given.

Oh, and if you want good autographs, get to the front of the barricade because by the time they get to the end of the line, the big flourishy signature becomes "Kri Ch", which doesn't sell well on eBay. jk. (I'm not a "stage door" person, but it was my vacation and I figured, what the hell.)

Oh man...well, I highly recommend the Met, MoMa...but you probably couldn't fit in both in one day. In fact, if you do, I believe that you are doing both museums a severe injustice. I could spend a week in each one of those museums, and still not see everything to the fullest extent. So, based on your short period of time, I would probably go to the Met over MoMa.

As for shopping, H&M is an UK chain that has now been opening up branches like mad in the US. I'm a big fan of the "B" department stores in NYC - Bloomies, Bergdorfs, Barneys. Also, even though I'm really not a huge fan of their clothes, the Prada store in SoHo is definitely worth checking out - if solely for the fact that it's the coolest store ever. I can't remember which one I frequent the most, but I love, love, love Sephora -- I'm a makeup junkie.
