Karmine was Larson's first choice.

Adam's singing in RENT is like a volcano that's going to errupt at any minute. You can HEAR all of the pain and anger he's holding back, and it's brilliant. That's all.

Adam's Roger was always one of the more quiet ones, as opposed to Jeremy or someone. With them, you could hear the anger in their voices, but he always played it somewhat more held-back, like you could just FEEL it waiting to come out. My favorite Roger, of course. Plus, it just makes the explosions, like during "Goodbye Love", FAR more emotional.

That was my take on it, anyway.

Edit: Emcee, I just realized I was essentially saying the same thing as you. Sorry! Didn't mean to copy!

Exactly. And the power that portrays is unbelievable. And I can't wait to see that same energy in the movie.

Yes indeed. In that clip of Glory, you can just see how much power he is putting into his singing with the way he moved and all. It was amazing! re: NYTW Rent vs. Broadway Rent

You came on here just to say that? Are you just...posting on any sites that have to do with Rent?

On another note, a question: Which do you think is worse, Do a Little Business or Real Estate? A topic of hot contention between me and the originator of this thread...

I've never actually heard either of those songs but based on reading the lyrics, I'm inclined to lean towards Do A Little Business. I mean I don't hate it but I much rather prefer You'll See (what I assume is the replacement of sorts to that song..)

As Lael knows, I prefer Do A Little Business over Real Estate, mainly cuz Real Estate is just flat out weird. With Business, they all sing, and it's cute, cuz you know they're making fun of Benny.

You'll See is far better than either of those songs, but if You'll See wasn't there, then definitely Do A Little Business.

Yeah the songs they chose to replace are all good but you can see why they were replaced. If they'd kept the original version of RENT (song) and I'd gone in to see the show with no previous knowledge of it I'd be weirded out beyond reason.

Some of the first songs for Rent are actually pretty good. Okay, except for the Benny songs in all honesty. I am thankful Jonathan changed those songs, or replaced them with other words (ie. Right Brain). I would've loved to have seen the 94 NYTW version though. It actually reveals a lot more about them that's not obvious in the broadway version.

Right Brain....*shudders*. Yeah I really wish I could have seen the NYTW version of the show. Even though I prefer the broadway version, I would still have loved to see it. Although I was only 3 or 4 when that came out so it was sort of impossible. :-P

I was finishing up my freshman year of high school when NYTW came out. I wish I was living in NY at the time, but nope, stuck in CA. Have been, and probably always will be. If only there was a way to see that show, that would be awesome.

broadway by 1000% I'm sorry but i am honestly shocked at how much better it became. and the people who recognized that this show had potential were incredible. I mean come on, female to female? and the guy who plays roger has an awful voice I can't even listen to it.

Don't get me wrong, I like many aspects of the NYTW version but it's nothing compared to what RENT became when it his the broadway stage. I'm just thankful that JL wrote What You Own, I love that song.
