Name That Tune: Broadway Style!

Although, no one ever correctly answered my first one (it was "She Loves Basketball" from Promises, Promises not The Beautiful Game) I will give it another go. This one should be just as easy as that one...
The dream has turned to ashes, the wheat has turned to straw. And someone asks the question: "What's the dyin' for?"
The living can't remember, the dead no longer care.
But next time it won't happen. Upon my soul I swear.

It's one of my favorite shows...I love it.
the opposite of dark is bright;
the opposite of bright is dumb.
so anything that's dark is dumb.
that's the rule of thumb!

that has to be from THE NERVOUS SET, unless there's another beatnik musical I've not heard of. but I have definitely heard that line, so I'm thinkin that's the show. OK let's see, something not too obscure...

All so damned ridiculous?
And so off their bloody balance,
And not rational, like us?"

We don't know the answer and thats been up since October.
It is now December, so new lyrics are in order.
B'way Matt you're pretty good to have stumped plenty of us for such a long time, I looked EVERYWHERE!
Poor young rich boy!
Masturbates for a vaudeville tarte,
What a waste of a fiery heart!
Poor young burgeois!
There are things that you've never tought,
Come to Emma and you'll be taught, here!

Ragtime
I don't mind the moonlight swims
It's the loop de loops that hurt
Kids!
How we ever beat the Russians?
Kids!
I didn't know what puberty was till I was almost past it

That would be "Lucky" from Floyd Collins.
He's on his knees.
I'm lying flat,
Just like a bad idea.
He starts to blow.
I start to fight.
The room is yellow and the bed is white.

Lookin for some kind of comfort from the heat,
And I had water!
I was the only one with water,
And I couldn't spare a drop of it to drink."

The Last Session?
If so, "When I was a tyke, I said what I like is art,
I know I'm a boy, but what I enjoy is art,
looking at paintings, going to plays,
music and books informing my days,
filling my mind, flooding my heart with art

Give yourself a break,
Whatever's happening.
Don't let your spirit, son
Come closing in."

Montage in ACL!!! LOVE IT!!
Here's one:
Le ombre lo riempivan
La luce non pariva mai
Clara, la luce nella piazza
Clara, mia luce, mio cor
Ora che sono sveglio
All'ombra non vo tornar
Non sapevo di sentirmi solo
Privo del senso della vita
Era cosi
