Napolean - what went wrong?

Can anyone on the board shed any light on what CamMack's Napolean was like? I can't find any info anywhere online, and am kinda interested to know what went wrong.

All I know is that it opened at the Shaftesbury, and closed shortly after.

You can't blame Cameron Mackintosh for that particular pile of sh*te...

I am from across the pond - NYC

I listened to the score of the canadian production & really enjoyed it. Sometimes your critics are worse than hours . My wife & I wanted to see Lautrec as wew are Aznavour fans but got to London 2 weeks after it closed. Some of the songs found their way onto some of his CD's & they were quite good.

We wound up seeing Witches Of Eastwick which we enjoyed.

Roxy it had nothing to do with the Critics, it was just a bad show and truly dull

Something tells me that a musical about napoleon wasn't going to have any toe tapping Bob fosse numbers

It is about a man who wanted to conquer the world. It is not a happy subject so how they could have done anything other than serious escapes me

I still like the score & would have liked to see the show & judged for myself. I doubt it could have been any more somber than Metropolis

Changing subjects, it is a shame that some british shows that were recorded never made it to CD like:

Gone With The Wind
The Good Old Bad Old Days

I'm generally a fan of the 'popera' shows - Les Mis, Martin Guerre, I'm even one of the few who loved La Cava! And with such exciting and rich subject matter, I still don't understand how they made Napoleon so boring! I thought that the staging and sets etc were great and even the music was fairly stirring in some places (mainly thanks to Tunick's fantastic orchestrations), but the book was weak and muddled and the lyrics were just a little basic.

Glad you enjoyed 'Witches' though
