Seeing WSS on Thursday, I was inspired to redo my clips of Natalie singing "I Feel Pretty" and the Quintet, and Russ singing the Jet Song, this time in High Definition.
I figured out how to strip Marni Nixon out of the soundtrack and give Natalie the orchestral backing used in the film.
Be sure and restart the clip when viewing in HD or it will be choppy.

Why did they dub Russ Tamblyn? He really doesn't sound any worse than the dubbed vocals!
It was adorable to hear that little-girl voice coming out of Natalie Wood instead of Marni Nixon's.

I like Russ' voice so much that I've updated my soundtrack CD with his vocal.
And Tucker Smith actually flats the last note in "When you're a Jet, you stay a Jet!"
So they replaced Russ' vocal with a weaker one, IMO.

Posted: 3/2/09 at 9:26pmI've always wondered that about Russ as well. Somewhere I remember hearing that they didn't think he had the "right sound" for that number. Why not just have him re-record it then?
