Does anyone know if Nathan comes out at Butley stage door and signs autographs?
I heard he comes out through the front of the theater.
That makes sense, eujenni, as that is the easiest door to come through at that theatre.
I'll find out for myself on the 28th
I can't wait.
I believe he came out a few years ago.

Bump....
Anybody been at the stage door. Did nathan come out and sign autographs?
Nathan typically escapes before anyone can get to him.

Unless you were in the lucky majority who got him within the 1st month of the Odd Couple, where he stage doored after every show.
They were smart at The Producers. He sent out pre-signed ones.

My friends saw The Odd Couple in November and got his autograph for me. But when I went in June he didn't come out.
I hope he comes out when I see Butley!
When I was there for Butley the first sunday into previous he escaped the theatre before anybody could get a pen out. Oh well, great performance though!
My film teacher told me that he's painfully shy. Has anyone met him and had a bad reaction? Or is he really nice? Just wondering...

He stage doored the week after his return from illness in January. I got the whole cast's autographs on January 24 when I went.

Yeah, there was sarcasm in that sentence.
And yes, he is very shy. Don't expect a conversation with him.
At Odd Couple he signed down the line for the people in the front (or those that could reach the front). He did not look up to take pictures or talk, he signed right down the line and was in his car before you could blink. I dont know if hes shy, I just think he doesnt like the stagedoor scene.
Rose in answer to your question: Yes Nathan is on the shy side, however he is very nice and very genuine. I had the pleasure of meeting him after a preview performance The Man Who Came To Dinner back in 2000. I was lucky enough that not alot of people had been waiting for him. But I was able to engage him in a conversation, a brief one but a conversation none-the-less. Maybe it was because there was no one there and maybe it was just because I was polite and adressed him as Mr. Lane. Who knows? I think the reason he avoids it now is the rudeness of most people at the stage door who just want his autograph and to scream things at him. Also I think he feels the pressure to be "on" in front of a crowd that large. All I'm saying is he gets too much heat for not coming out the stage door and it's perfectly understandable why he wouldn't want to.
^ Yeah, that's the impression I got from him. I didn't think he was UNFRIENDLY, but when my teacher said that, it confirmed it for me. Thanks Carl!
Sorry rose I hope you didn't think I was insinuating that I had thought you found him unfriendly. I just think that is the public view of him since he stopped stage dooring during Producers.
Oh no, not at all! I have been seeing him in a lot of interviews lately and I've never met him so I was just wondering how he was if he even did the SD scene. You didn't insinuate anything bad, don't worry, lol.
When he was in Trumbo, I had to go down the street to get the car after the show, which was parked far away. My wife stayed at the theatre, and a few others were waiting outside for Nathan. He came out, chatted with the few people there, signed autographs, and then just walked down the street and turned the corner. He was very nice, and didn't hop into a limo!
I've met him a few times, and he is very quiet (but nice!) I don't hold it against him at all if he doesn't come out---he owes me 100% on stage and nothing else---IF I happen to get his autograph at the stage door, that's pure gravy!
