Our girls weekend in NYC will be Oct 1 and 2.  I reserved tickets for Waitress for Oct 1 and can't figure out what to see on Oct 2.

We will be seeing An American in Paris, Curious Incidence, and Finding Neverland in Denver next season and can't afford tickets to see Hamilton.  Already seen Book of Mormon, Wicked, Lion King, Jersey Boys.

Other than Color Purple and Shuffle Along, are there any other musicals we should consider?

Cynthia Erivo should presumably still be in Color Purple by then, and if she indeed is, do not miss her.

There was another woman who posted a similar question a few weeks back.  Assuming your girls weekend is kind of a fun,  party weekend like theirs was, several people suggested to see American Psycho.   That is what they ended up seeing and reported back they loved the show.  I've seen it twice and have been impressed both times.

If you're not planning to see Hamilton, I don't think you need to make any decisions on the other shows just yet. Some of the shows out there wil be closing, and we'll also have some additional shows that haven't started yet. (For example, I would enthusiastically recommend Bright Star, but sadly it's looking like there's a slim chance it will still be around in October. Same with American Psycho, which is divisive but I loved.)

Color Purple would be an excellent option, but it's not selling out, so there's no reason to commit now. You can wait and book tickets after you see what happens between now and then.

Note that Audra will presumably be out of shuffle along in October. She is starting maternity leave in July and I doubt she'll be back by then.  That is selling out now, but even then it's easy to get tickets within a few weeks, and I do imagine it will be even easier to get tickets when she leaves.

I had asked the board for suggestions for a girls' weekend a few weeks back. I also did not want to see anything that I could see the touring company in the upcoming year. I like to see Original Broadway Casts , if possible, when I am in NYC. As someone noted, We saw American Psycho. We thought it was terrific and quite different than anything else out there. Great for girls' weekend, and don't let the topic or the movie influence you. I strongly recommend NOT seeing Fun Home. We saw it on a girl's weekend last fall. Nobody was thrilled with it, even though this board seems to love it.  Unfortunately, Shuffle and the Color Purple were sold out, so I can not comment. In the Fall, we also saw School of Rock and On your Feet. School of Rock is a lot of fun.,if you see it- see an evening performance, just stay away from the matinee ( a friend reported a lot of kids attending that were distracting) Our favorite was On Your Feet,  We all absolutely loved it!  Very upbeat, we walked out thrilled and all said we could turn around and see it again! Feel free to PM me if you have any questions. Can't wait to do another girls' weekend in NYC! Have fun!

Fun Home is my favorite musical on Broadway currently (except Hamilton) and is worth seeing in New York due to the intimate in-the-round theatre. However, it's emotional so don't see it if you and your friends want upbeat.

Fun Home is also a great suggestion but I really wouldn't get my heart set on it still being around either. It very well may be, but 4 months is a long time. I sure hope it's still around!!

At first I thought you were actually talking about your girls (as in children)!  At least you didn't say "girlfriend"...  (That's not right if you are a hetero.)

Anyway...  :)  There will be new musicals by then!  Reviews: Show-Score.com  'Some Broadway, some Off-Broadway, and some Off-off Broadway.  Need Suggestions for Oct 2

Who knows what will happen with Hamilton re-sale after the original cast leaves this Summer?  In addition to the lottery (which supposedly has 10,000 entrants for each performance), you can check out VividSeats, StubHub, and Seat Geek for Hamilton in September.  You might be able to afford to see Hamilton.

If still playing, you could see Rotten & On Your Feet. American psycho is also quite good but the prospects of it being around in October are not. Beautiful would also be a good choice
