I know there are many of these already, but they generally do not have what I'm looking for. So here's what I need.
I need a belty audition song, very gospel sounding. I'm auditioning for Little Shop on April 18th hoping to be an Urchin, or even Audrey. This is my first professional musical audition, and I really want to make it count.
I have a large range, and can belt fairly high.
So if you could please give me your ideas.
Songs I've thought of:
Learn your Lessons Well- Godspell
Move- Dreamgirls
Cleaning Women- Working (Though my friend is doing it)
So, I would really appreciate it guys.

I think anything from Hairspray could work, it fits the style of the LSOH music and pretty much all the female songs are belty.

I agree with those also The Crossing from Big River is great too. I think Lessons Well is good too. Gods Love Nubia from Aida could work, I don't know if I Don't Know How To Love Him is overdone, it could be.

A lot of the music from Aida could be used because of the voice style. Hairspray is a good idea. Look for shows that fit your catagory and then look for songs. Hope you get the part.

Ain't It Good from Children of Eden would be great as well.

Hmm, see I'm perplexed. I was told to generally not audition with anything that is currently on Broadway. I would loooove to audition with Hairspray, but I think it may be over done.
I'm definitley checking out all of those choices. And thanks, but if anybody has anymore I'd be delighted!

hm....maybe something for Last 5 Years. Maybe 'See I'm Smiling'.
Aida's not on broadway so you could do that!
Don't take anything from Last Five Years. The music is too hard for most accompanist to sight-read.
If you're going to Audrey, there is a song called "Disneyland" from Smile that is literally one of the most perfect audition songs for that role. It's by Alan Menken (who wrote the music for Little Shop) and it's not very well known.
If you're going for an Urchin, then most of the other stuff listed will work. Hairspray is a great choice, but yes, it's overdone. Don't do that unless you KNOW you kick ass at it. Learn Your Lessons Well is a good choice, and so is Bless The Lord (also from Godspell).
Break a leg with your audition!!

Well, Hairspray, I definitley know I can kick ass at. That musical was practically written for me.
What song from it would you reccomend?
I don't really know which I'm auditioning for. Audrey would be great, I can pull off her speach schtick and can belt the hell out of Suddenly Seymour and Downtown. But I would also love to be an Urchin.
Damn choices.
I also considered "Bless the Lord". We just did Godspell recently, so luckily it's all in my head.
Thanks,
Linzy
The obvious choices from Hairspray would either be Welcome to the 60's or maybe I Know Where I've Been.

believe it or not, Dave Clemmons told me that Hairspray isn't too overdone. It be nice if you find an older pice but I think they'll listen to Hairspray.

From Hairspray you could try "Without Love". I know it's mostly ensemble and duets, but you could probably make it work.
"Human Heart" From Once on this island.. I love that song!!!

Ooh another good song from Once On This Island is Waiting for Life to Begin
