Nelly Furtardo as Elphaba?

Doesn't she resemble Idina?
I also think she could play the role of Elphaba too.

re: Nelly Furtardo as Elphaba?

I love Nelly Furtado and based on looks and speaking voice it seems like she would be a good Elphaba, but she doesn't not have the vocal range or power to fill the role.

re: Nelly Furtardo as Elphaba?

Yeah, Nelly's definitely got a folk-dance quality to her voice (I think I just made up a new genre), and Elphaba has to BELT.

And munk, your "pointless" post was exactly that.

re: Nelly Furtardo as Elphaba?

I know that many people reading this thread won't care, but I think that Paula Cole would make a great Elphaba. She looks a little like Idina Menzel (not that all Elphaba's HAVE to look like her) but she also has an AMAZING range and it's STRONG. Listen to some of her songs, such as "Tiger," "Throwing Stones," "La Tonya," and if one can find her live version of "Black Dog." Hear those and tell me her voice isn't perfect for this role. Okay, enough from me...

I hate Nelly Furtado's voice because it really annoys me. She should stay away from Broadway.

Sure, she looks liek she could play Elphaba. But she can't SING like she could play Elphaba. NO WAY.

I think Nelly (the rapper) should play Elphaba. That'd be hott.
Yes that's me. No, it's not a Rent homage.

o_0...I'd have to storm Gershwin and protest if that happens...NOOO...I passionately dislike her.

re: Nelly Furtardo as Elphaba?

"based on looks"...??? um the last time i checked the only "look" that elphaba should have is green. I really don't think it matters at all if the actress is white or looks like idina menzel at all. thats just stupid people and it limits who can play the role

re: Nelly Furtardo as Elphaba?

Actually, a lot of the people who are hating on Nelly do not realize that vocal range that she posesses. Honestly, she actually sounds like Idina, and (being that I have seen her in concert - twice) has an AMAZING belt. She does have the voice AND potential to play Elphaba.
The reason why she will not play Elphaba: Nelly is all about originality. She is a gifted song writer who takes pleasure in writing her own stuff. I think it is too early in career for her to want to do "other" people's work, including covers, and Broadway shows.

"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive. "Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot." "No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one." Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.

re: Nelly Furtardo as Elphaba?

wow what ever happened to her? i remember her from way back when haha
A dancer might dream to see her name in lights and mean it, but all she really dreams is to make someone else feel the way she did when she first saw a dancer. And that is so beautiful-Anonymous

re: Nelly Furtardo as Elphaba?

Nelly works behind the scenes in collaborations when she is not touring or recording an album.

Lately, she just recorded "Quando Quando Quando" on Michael Buble's new album.

Also, a little more than a year ago, she gave birth to her first child.

Who was named Nevis after the island on which she was conceived. Freaky fact o' the day for ya there, folks.

re: Nelly Furtardo as Elphaba?

I actually think the next Elphaba will probably be Eden Espinosa. The producers are already aware of how many people loved her in that role. If it wasn't for Brooklyn, I have a feeling Eden would be the current Elphaba. If not, I think Stephanie J Block will make a return to Broadway in the role.

I've always thought that Idina resembled her. But no no no regarding her playing Elphaba.

re: Nelly Furtardo as Elphaba?

umm...not to be harsh but I look like I could play Maureen in a couple years but that doesn't mean I wouldn't absolutely murder the score.
