New Irish Theatre

Wasn't sure where to post this. Hope its okay here
The grand Canal Theare, Dublin is set to open March 2010 with Musicals from Broadway and The West End

This brand new 2,100 capacity purpose built theatre was designed by world renowned architect Daniel Libeskind and is an outstanding addition to Irelands Theatre world. Due to open in March 2010, the theatre will be presenting the best of National and International Theatre, Musicals, Drama, Opera, Ballet, Family Shows & Classical Concerts and will have the facility to accommodate world class West End and Broadway productions for the first time in Ireland.

The opening production at the Grand Canal Theatre in Dublin on March 18, 2010 will be a stunning performance of Swan Lake by the Russian State Ballet, featuring star soloists from the Bolshoi Ballet with some great new shows added this week including Ronan Keating, the legendary Don McLean, US comic Jeff Dunham and Randy Newman.

The Canal Theatre, looks modern without being tacky, I imagine they are well into construction now? I would hazard a guess that the building shell is complete and they are doing the inside by now?

Could Dublin sustain a theatre of 2100 capacity, if so it will be interesting to see whether Les Miserables, Sound of Music, Hairspray and We Will Rock you etc will go there? These shows would need to sell out foe 1-2 months to be viable I guess?

Dublin deserves a top theatre and they look like they have one on the way.

re: New Irish Theatre

What was The Point and is now the 02 arena, has, in my opinion, always been too big and impersonal for shows. The addition of a new purpose built theatre that seats 2000+ is welcome and makes Ireland even more attractive to large scale theatre productions.

Much of the musical theatre that does tour Ireland appears to play the larger venues, which haven't, as yet, developed a regular audience, these include Kilarney and Castlebar. The North of Ireland, Derry and Belfast are excellent places to play and have an appreciative audienece. So welcome Dublin, I sincerely hope that I get the chance to perform there.

The bottom two are Joseph and Whistle down the Wind, the later is missing dates and should of been updated by now.

I would put my money on Les Miserable, imagine that if they got Colm Wilkinson to lead, that would be amazing, I would fly to Dublin to see that myself.

As an outsider I would go for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

What would you like to see? I bet out Irish friends would like to see Hairspray come over?

If hairspray came the crowds would flock to see it like there was no tomorrow. I'd love to see the sound of music come

re: New Irish Theatre

Why cannot the great Jean Valjean be 65? I cannot see no reason why not, alright at that age he may be a bit frail to lift the runaway cart.

Could be Spamalot, they are starting to announce venues.

Sorry for the disappointing news.
