Wonderful news! I've heard nothing but great things about Caissie. It will be great to see yet another tour member in the Broadway production.

I posted this in the article discussion, but I'll say it here as well...

A friend and I saw HAIRSPRAY, last night, and Caissie was absolutely brilliant in the role. At intermission, I turned to my friend and said, "the production is good, but you know who is really the stand out performer?" She said, "Penny." We both noticed, and normally it's just a character I like. Last night? It was the "Penny" show. In a good way.

Good for her.

Another reason for me to see this show again, especially since I didn't (and won't) get a chance to see Diana DeGarmo before she leaves.

Isn't DeGarmo coming back in September?

I saw Caissie in September and thought she had an amazing voice, but her characterization needed work. Perhaps she's improved since then (as it has been a while). I'd definitely be interested in catching her again.

So happy for her! She's a fantastic Penny. I know I'm going back this summer.

Heard nothing but wonderful things about Caissie and heard she's super nice to boot. Can't wait to see her as Penny. :)

I saw her in Boston in October, and she really stole the show in some places. In particular, her delivery of the lyrics "But now I've tasted chocolate / And I'm never going back" in "Without Love" had people practically rolling in the aisles. Good for her!

Congrats to Cassie! I have heard fantastic things about her Penny, and wish I could have seen her when I saw the show in February (she was out and I saw her understudy, who was also amazing.) Is Degarmo coming back after the BKLYN tour, since Cassie is only there through August 31st?

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

I saw Cassie play Penny in Boston as well, loved her performance. I am so happy for her. To think that she has made the leap from Tammy in Toronto/US tour to Penny on Broadway! That is quite amazing in my opinion. And she used to play Maureen in the non-equity Rent tour as well.

Dean: Can I tell you something? Lorraine: That depends on what it is. Dean: I think you're really really pretty. Lorraine: (after a pause) Ok, you can tell me that.

DottieD'Luscia: You might still get a chance to see both if you wish. I believe DeGarmo returns to the show Sept. 5th for possibly a 6-month run.

Congratulations to Caissie. That's excellent. I think it's cool that they cast someone already familiar with the role. It will make the transition a whole lot easier and some are already familiar with her because of the national tour. I wonder if they'll bring her back after DeGarmo finishes her second run?

If Caisse is there till Aug 31 and Diana doesn't start till Sept 5 I guess the understudy steps in for a week.
