Last season Broadway had 11 new plays, 9 play revivals, 10 new musicals and 5 Musical revivals.
So far this season we've got 7-9 new musicals, 5-7 musical revivals, 7 play revivals and only 6 new plays.
Is there any buzz on other new plays coming in? I know a some shows will announce later on, but it surprised me how few were announced so far. I know last season was a strong one for new plays, with early buzz for the London transfers (Curious, Audience, Wolf Hall) in addition to Hand to God and Disgraced, so maybe I just got spoiled by last season.
To my knowledge the new plays this season are:
An Act of God
China Doll
King Charles III
Misery
Our Mothers Brief Affair
Any thoughts? Or any shows I'm missing?

Isn't Therese Raquin considered a revival? I mean the original play is from the 1800s

I'm not sure about Therese Raquin. The adaptation is new but both the novel and the original play would be "classics."
I hear what you're saying, but Broadway has not recently been a strong vehicle for new non-musicals. Mostly the non-profit companies that have Broadway houses will bring us new plays to Broadway.
Most new plays will premiere off-Broadway. I've already seen so many that were EXCEPTIONAL. GRACE at the Vineyard comes to mind.

I'm just surprised that so few have been announced, considering last season had a few really successful plays. Curious Incident and Fish in the dark must have recouped. I assume the Audience, Constellations and the River did as well, and Hand to God is still running. That's about the same success rate as the new musicals.
I wonder if maybe there are some more London transfers or star vehicles that might be in the works for this season.
I totally agree with you guys!! It seems like this season especially is very musical heavy. Bring in more good plays!! I can't wait for King Charles III though
It's not a new play, but "Sylvia" has never been on Broadway before. But I suspect the Tony committee will deem it a revival, as they did with "Little Shop of Horrors" in 2003.

Sylvia will be a revival per the "classics" rule. I'm sure we will get more new plays coming into the race. There are still theaters available.

MTC also hasn't announced the Friedman's spring tenant yet; OUR MOTHER'S BRIEF AFFAIR is in the CONSTELLATIONS/MULLINGAR winter spot. That likely will be a new play as MTC rarely does more than one revival there, if any, in a season.
Nevertheless, there will also undoubtedly be announcements coming. Transfers, either from London or off-Broadway or other cities here in America... new works among them, surely.

Not that it matters because it's the quality of the show over how long it is, but just out of blatant curiosity, is China Doll a one act play? Does anyone even know anything about this play or is it going to be something where they give you vague information walking in ala Hugh Jackman in The River? BTW, taking a quick look on Telecharge, tickets are going extremely fast for this show (not surprisingly, since everyone wants to see good ole' Al Pacino) so if you want to see it I would get them now.
