I prefer the Vineyard artwork. The splayed figure had far more visual impact against the white background with the black bars behind him. The red background dilutes the power, IMHO.

I'm with TulitaPepsi on this one. This feels too heavy-handed to me. The red sets the whole tone and I don't feel as compelled to examine the figure, which is what had me staring at the old artwork for 10 minutes trying to wrap my mind around what was going on there. This version loses me after a quick glance.

I'm with the OP. I did like the Vineyard version, but the bars conjured a very specific feeling. For me, without the bars and with the added shadow, I concentrate solely on the figure and his ambiguous agony or ecstasy pose. I also think the distressed red background looks both modern and antique.

Well Said, Smaxie.

I also think to the average tourist walking around Times Square, the red will be MUCH more eye-catching than the white, and the bars may have been off-putting for them.
