A few weeks ago I read an article that said that 2 songs will be added to the Producers film (sorry, I can't find a link to the article or else I would post it). Anywho, I remember reading in that big, annotated coffee table book of the stage version that there was a song for Leo and Ulla called "I Go to Rio" that they sang when they left for Rio towards the end of the show but it was later cut. Does anyone know if that is one of the two added songs?
No idea. I thought I read there were 3 song added for the movie. I guess Mel wants a Best Song Oscar but I'd be really happy to see Danny Elfman win for The Corpse Bride. :)
Not to get too off topic, but since you brought it up, I assumed Danny Elfmann is writing the score for "Corpse Bride," but will there be songs in it as well? Will it be [crosses fingers] a musical like "Nightmare Before Christmas" was?
Yep. There are a bunch of songs in The Corpse Bride. See the link for music samples and visit the Music Room!

Does this mean we are going to hear Johnny Depp sing?
No. Johnny has already said he doesn't sing in the movie.
That'll be a great race for Best Song. Jonathan Larson, Mel Brooks and Danny Elfman.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but Jonathan Larson won't be eligible for a "Best Song" nomination... only songs written from for the film are eligible...right?
Forgive me, bjivie2. Is that avatar from a middle school production of Little Shop of Horrors...because frankly.. and again, forgive me,... it looks like a pederasts wet dream.
There's a "new song" being added to the credits of the RENT movie that they're hoping to be elligible for an Oscar, I'm assuming. (it's obviously not new, but it probably hasn't been performed before, or at least hasn't been in a show)
And my avitar is definitely of an 18-year old. Haha. But don't worry, right before she played Audrey she was an orphan in Annie. She was Audrey in my production of Little Shop which had people age 17-20.
But the song would have to be written specifically FOR the film. Not just an unused song of Larson's, unfortunately.

Danny Elfman sang for the lead characger in NIGHT,MARE BEFORE XMAS, and he sang ALL the Oompa Loompa voices in CHARLE AND THE CHOCOLLATE FACTORY, so I assume he's be singing for Depp in CORPSE BRIDE.
And yes, fore the hundreth time, Jonathan Larson CANNOT be eligible for an Oscar.
I wish we could still here Johnny Depp sing though
Also as far as rent and producers go, (sorry if this is considered thread jacking) but beacause they are both up for oscars in the same year will producers still have a blowout? Also does it look as likly that Wilson Jermain Heredia will be nominated for supporting actor again or not? (MY guess is Lane and Beach take home Oscars)
While we all say Jonathan Larson won't be nominated, I'm SURE they'll try to push it. Why else would they release an extra song?
It's going to be a really tough year at the Oscars. There is a lot of good stuff coming out. Frankly I think Nathan might have trouble getting a nom. The Producers makes fun of show biz yes. But mainly Broadway (and it tickled the Tony voters fancy). Frankly I don't think the film industry is going to like it as much; Although I do think they'll like it.

I doubt TWO people from Producers will win oscars...maybe nominated but doubtful to win, simply because the Academy rarely awards comedy as much as it should. In this aspect, it will really help Rent, i think, because the Producers is SUCH a comedy and Rent is SUCH a drama.

I will be shocked if Gary Beach or Wilson Heredia is nominated for an Oscar. Already I can predict Paul Giamatti from CINDERELLA MAN, Terence Howard & Don Cheadle from CRASH. And "Oscar season" hasn't even started.
Why are we talking about people being nominated for two movies (Producers and Rent) that haven't even come out yet? What if they're both AWFUL? (Not that that has ever stopped the Academy from nominating films or actors before.)
Before we make predictions, can we at least SEE the movie in question just once?
(Oh, and if The Producers is a good movie, why wouldn't Hollywood love it? The original Producers is considered holy relic among movie fans and critics alike.)
Let's just hope.
There are entire forums devoted to talking about what movies will get nominated for Oscars. Nothing wrong with it. It's fun. I wouldn't be surprised if any two of the following - Matthew Broderick, Jesse L. Martin or Wilson Heredia - were nominated for supporting actor. I think Broderick actually has more of a shot than Nathan Lane.
I'm gonna have to go ahead and disagree. I think Broderick is less likely...I think Nathan Lane deserves his chance. I think the show showcases him more, but then again, who knows what about the movie. But I think either one of them are pretty likely to get nods...I guess we'll have to see how it turns out. Wouldn't be shocked at all if Heredia earned a nod.
Okay, don't stone me for asking this. I also may behind and whatnot, and there may have been threads aplenty about this before, but I thought what the hell.
Has anyone heard Uma sing? I mean, I found 2 production shots from the movie today(here's the link - http://www.comingsoon.net/cgi-bin/imageFolio.cgi?direct=Musical/The_Producers) and it just got me to thinking. Maybe because there's more press around RENT right now, or because RENT fans are more obsessive, but they were all wondering about Rosario singing, but I haven't heard anything about Uma's voice thoughts.
Eh, I'm kind of rambling now. Sorry. But, does anyone have an answer?
Okay. Whatever. I just think making predictions for movies that haven't even been RELEASED yet is a tad premature. I mean, everyone is entitled to their opinions, but how can you predict anything when there isn't actually anything tangible upon which to comment? (BTW, I didn't say there is anything "wrong" with it. It's just, I don't know, kinda pointless. IMHO.
)
So when is the movie coming out? Sorry, haven't been here in a while.
It's supposed to be released in December. (My husband is an extra in it...unless, of course, he winds up on the cutting room floor!)
