Oh geez. This website is so awesome. I haven't seen one this perfect since SWEENEY! I'm definately gonna have to use one of these pictures for my icon.
WHat show is this most like?
Think RENT; only fresh, new, and good, with energy.
Yeah, i've heard it compared to RENT a couple times. They probably get stuck together a lot because they're both rock musicals.

Does anybody think it is going to have the same following as RENT?
I say so. I still have a lot of RENThead obsessed people on my friends list on Myspace and the SECOND they read the little ad on my site that said "....since RENT" I got over a thousand messages asking me, "WHAT IS THIS 'SPRING AWAKENING' SHOW?!?!?!"
Does anybody think it is going to have the same following as RENT?
Even larger. RENT makes its audience of tweens feel like they somehow relate to its characters, when in fact, these kids have nothing in common with the characters in RENT. SPRING AWAKENING is *about* teens who aren't being told by the adults in their lives what's going on with their bodies and emotions. The kids that see this show will absolutely relate with these characters, and those of us that are a bit older will remember what it was like at that age and completely relate.
Does anyone get freaked out by how much Lea Michelle looks like a young Idina Menzel. I think it has to do with her slight underbite and the slight change it mnakes to her speech pattern, similar to Idina.

Wanna Be A Foster makes a FANTASTIC point. I actually am a teen and the whole concept got me interested in the play a couple years ago, but now it's being turned into a musical, and I LOVE musicals, so I was already obsessed.
...and i'm not even one of those obnoxious "OH MY Gawd!21$!$ I LOVES IT!" teens.

Kiss your sorry a$$ goodbye . . .
YAY!
I think this show also touches on some of the issues Bare hit on. The music I would say is closer to Rent or Hair though.

I think all of these comparisons (Bare, Rent, Hair, etc) are about right for the atmosphere, but the show itself is less a musical than a play with music. The songs serve to comment on the action and provide character development rather than to further the plot in a literal sense. This is what makes the show work, though; since they don't have to service the story, the rock songs can be actual rock songs and not watered-down Broadway-infused rock.
This is slightly off-topic, but is anyone else having problems with the ipod download? I can't seem to get it onto itunes from my desktop.
Has anyone posted the rehearsal video yet? Here you go.
Rehearsal Video
I watched the broadway.com video, and I have to say it left me un-inspired. The music wasn't too great from what I heard, and everyone was standing around looking bored.
I'll go to the website and see what I think of it.

I love the show. Saw it 3 times at the ATC. But I kinda had the same feeling about the rehearsal video on Broadway.com. Why did everyone in the cast look so bored when they were singing? They didn't look excited about what they were doing at all. I mean this was for the press, no? I mean if the cast didn't look excited, which I know they all are extremely, why should the people watching be. I dunno, I just think someone should have told them to pump up the energy. I mean the one kid was singing to the floor. lol. But I am still pumped for this show! And plus, all these clips online don't really preview how amazing the show is in person.
