There a post over at ATC that it will be recorded on the 14th.
When is La Cage getting it's new recording? I mean there was a petition and everything! Sweeney already has like 12 or 13 and La Cage only has 1!

Thanks for the news from the other realm, Margs!
MargoChanning et al:
Do you have a link to the ATC sight that mentions the 14th date?
I'm not sure how to find that page.
Thanks!!

the question i have is how on earth are they going to record this? since done the "traditionally" they'd have to pay everyone to do the whole recording twice (which would cost a ton)
A single cd? How are they going to fit that score onto one disc?

Actually, "Sweeney" has 2 (OBC and Philharmonic), not 13. This one will make it 3.

Any idea if its going to be a two-disk cast recording?

The cast is already getting paid twice for doing the show -- they get their Equity salary and their musician's union salary. I imagine they will also get double pay for the recording which given the tiny cast of ten is hardy a big deal (this will still be the cheapest Sweeney recording ever made -- the OBC had 27 musicians remember, plus a cast of 27; the orchestra and cast were even larger for the Philharmonic recording). One benefit is that since they're not doing an actual performance in the studio, all ten could record the score instrumentally first and then do it vocally on another track so the sound would be fuller than it could be in the theatre (in other words, those playing trumpet, flute, tuba etc could also actually sing as part of the ensemble on separate tracks).
It'll be interesting to see what they cut to fit the score on one CD (CDs hold 78 minutes max, I believe).

One cd! That's a bummer.

Hopefully they'll record the whole score and maybe release what doesn't fit on one as bonus tracks sometime in the future.
The OBC Highlights album (which is 73 minutes) has:
1. Prelude/The Ballad of Sweeney Todd: Attend the tale of Sweeney Todd... Listen Listen Listen
2. No Place Like London/The Barber And His Wife
3. The Worst Pies In London
4. My Friends/The Ballad of Sweeney Todd: Lift Your Razor High, Sweeney!...
5. Johanna
6. The Ballad of Sweeney Todd: Sweeney pondered and Sweeney planned.../Wait
7. Kiss Me/Ladies in Their Sensitivities
8. Pretty Women/Epiphany
9. A Little Priest
10. God, That's Good!
11. Johanna
12. By The Sea
13. Not While I'm Around
14. Final Sequence (Excerpt)/The Ballad of Sweeney Todd: Attend The Tale of Sweeney Todd...
It omits Green Finch and Linnet Bird, Turpin's "Joanna", Pirelli's contest, and a few others.
Is Turpin's Johanna in this production? IBDB doesn't have it listed.
As much as I adore this revival, the only reason I see for another album, it is to do a 2 cd recording of the entire show - live.
A single disc of highlights made in a studio where the orchestral is recorded separately from the performances completely goes against what makes this production of SWEENEY special and worth keeping.
The performances are terrific, but its really Sarah Travis' orchestrations that need to be heard. And much of her best work falls outside of the perimeters of the "big" numbers.

Thanks MargoChanning -
You rock!
Oh - and BTW, I feel strongly that the recording should and probably will be done "live to tape" with the musicians playing and singing at the same time - it's such an integral part of the show, the actor's responses/reactions, both musically and vocally, to what is going on IN THE MOMENT.
Also, Nonesuch is the type of label that promotes very authentic and organic types of performances, artists, and productions.
Just one person's opinion.
Can't wait!
