I just came from Barnes and Nobles and I saw the Kristen/Idina Logo on the cover of Maguire's WICKED! I peered inside the Green Glossy cover to reveal numerous color photos from the Bdwy Show! Some photos I have and have not seen before! I liked how they tried to match scenes that actually happen in the book! I looked this up on amazon, and its official release is March 2nd!! Check it out!
Is the story the same or has it been changed to go along with the show more? Just wondering.
its the same book, just softcover(wicked has been re-released in hardcover)<-kinda funny though, cause i saw it under NEW arrivals at BN. like previously said, it just has an insert of pictures from the show. they are BIG though!
cool, im buying the book when i go into the city tomorrow. did u see it in the city or at a local barnes and noble.

the book is available at that theatre store by the st james....and whats intersting is there are big shors of indina and not kristen (well more of) in it wich is appropriate since the book is more about elphaba then the stage incarnation. but i just thought it was kind of funny....it is a nice book though.
Sweet I'll have to pick it up when I get into the city in a couple weeks....
Well, shucks. I recently got the book, actually two as gifts, and now there is one with pictures?! I can't go buy another one! Guess I will just have to hide out in the bookstore, it's not like I don't already do that. lol I am a strange kid.

I was really looking forward to buying this version as I really wanted to read the book. Then my husband comes home with the older version. If only he would talk to me about these things. Well, I guess I can always still buy the new one and keep it nice a pristine as I already read it.
I liked the book a lot, and was prepared to be disgusted with the way they changed it. But, the opposite happened. I like how the broadway show makes it come full circle. I thought they really kept the character of Elphaba right in line with the novel. But, as Gregory Maguire says in the liner notes, they kept the intentions and mood of the novel while making it their own.

go to the bookstore like borders and return it, you can do it if it is in sellable condition, without a reciept you can exchange or get store credit then buy new one....hehe no loss...i like the original but i have to tell you there is nice pictures. but thankgod for the publishers the show is still running when the tie-in came out....remember the jane eyre special edition.
I like that they included pics from the show but I love the cover of the original novel much more than the Wicked musical poster.
So this book is only being sold in the city?
Does anyone out there care that the play BARELY resembles the book?
Half the movies made from books "barely" look like the book...
If the author had a problem with the adaptation then I'd have a problem but he loves the way it was translated and its his works, so who are we to complain?
I'm not complaining - I just think the book is so much better than the show - the show makes the material trite, in my opinion.
And you're entitled to that....
I saw it in NJ. so i'm sure most Barnes and Nobles/Borders have it too.
It's available anywhere books are sold... the only difference, this time the producers of the SHOW are making big money off the sell of the book whereas they make ZIPPO when someone buys the original....and the cast isn't getting any residuals from the book sales. They were paid a flat fee (low).
I would rather support the original author instead of giving money hungry producers more cash...

That is untrue, Lilhead. The Broadway producers are not making a dime off of the new edition of the book. Regan Books and Gregory Maguire retain all rights and deservedly get all of the profits. Another occasion on which you need to check your facts before posting.
It was solely Regan Books' idea to release this new edition of the book. They're thrilled with the success of the show and its impact on the sales of the novel.
By the way, the cast is getting the agreed-upon Actors Equity fee for the usage of their likenesses in the book (and would never, under any circumstances, get residuals - that's preposterous).
